<p>i’m sorry about your brother wiki, but i just don’t see how he will help get you into cornell or columbia. i wish you all the best, but we’re in the tail end of the baby boom years and applications to these places are being delivered by the truckload. you’re not getting into columbia or cornell with those sat scores and being white. even an ed application wouldn’t have helped. except for duke, the other schools seem to fall within your range. the schools that you listed though are so different in location and feel. is there any consistent thread that runs through them or are you looking for the highest ranked school you can get into? btw, there is nothing wrong with just wanting to get into the highest ranked school you can get into, if that is what makes you feel good.</p>
<p>I think people are being overly optimistic. Having a so-so GPA and less than stellar SAT scores is a deadly combination at the super competitives. I recall Brown accepts 8% of those in the top 6%-10% class rank range; I am sure the others are similar. Even 8% may be a gross overestimate as athletes and URMs probably fill many of those slots. People underestimate the importance of GPA and tend to dwell on SAT scores.</p>
<p>That being said, your ECs are strong and the things I find most impressive are the walks and fundraising. You seem very service oriented and although your service activities are somewhat scattered I think that they present
a pretty solid theme.</p>

He won’t, plain and simple. But, it is something in my life that has had an impact on me and helps show the adcoms more of who I am (through the essay.) That’s all, it’s just another facet of who I am. </p>

<p>I think it’s a hook, even though this is the first time I’ve thought of a “hook” as something like that. But I really think it would help you get in because if I were an adcom, I’d think of the self-motivation, responsibility and maturity that generally should come with having an autistic sibling. unless you’re extremely selfish and immature and a terrible person…in which case I think your essay will show what’s true.
don’t give up on cornell or columbia or those top schools. you really never know…but either way, you’ll get into a really great school so good luck =)</p>
<p>caring for an autistic sibling is a wonderful thing, but in the context of college admissions, a “hook” is implied to mean something else. caring for your sib will and probably has enriched your life more than any experience you will have at whatever college you ultimately attend.</p>

<p>Yes… I applied to two in-state schools. I’ve been accepted to New College fo Florida and I’m waiting to her eback from UF.</p>

<p>I thought they were pretty good… I had a few people read and edit them. I REALLY hope BC was a fluke… otherwise I’m screwed.</p>
<p>Remember that all apps to schools are independent. If you’re rejected from BC, it doesn’t mean that you can’t go to, say, Cornell cause you couldn’t get into BC. It’s completely independent, so don’t worry yet. I know a guy that was rejected from Georgia Tech, freaked out, then got accepted to MIT and Stanford. It happens.</p>
