Cornell ED Class of 2022 Discussion Thread

@Scorpion2000 I was wondering the same thing. Anyone from the south or midwest? Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas/Arkansas?

Guys I have applied for ED.Suppose I get admitted is there anyway I don’t join Cornell?

@LIONKINGGGG I suppose only if you can demonstrate that you can’t afford it. It is a binding decision and your school Guidance Counselor and parents signed it, right?

@LIONKINGGGG the only allowable breach from the binding agreement, is if the financial aid isn’t sufficient for your attendance. There is not stated criteria for that, so it’s really between the Student, their family and Cornell to determine it. That said, there’s nothing but your personal ethics that would prevent you from just refusing, but bear in mind, Cornell could contact other schools, and your decision would not make your HS counselor look good.

@bipedalhumanoid Hey! CoE and u? I thought I was the only applicant from Europe here:)

Hi @LIONKINGGGG , my D has ED’d to another school. And we have demonstrated need. How I understand it is if Cornell admits you, the only way you and your family can get out of the agreement is if the financial aid does not come in where it is supposed to be. Then you can get out. A financial person from my D’s ED school even told me that it’s up to us as a family to decide if that offer is enough for us, it’s not up to them to decide. Now, if you do not have financial need, I don’t think there is wiggle room. Even if there are promising things happening with other schools you’ve applied to (like my D), when we signed the forms for ED, we said if accepted, she’d go there AND we’d pull any other applications from other schools.

If you have really tough details involved in your situation, I would encourage you to talk to your GC.

I am not sure how Cornell would contact other schools if they don’t know where @LIONKINGGGG applied. However, some schools do share info. automatically within their consorsiums. And I have read that the Ivy League automatically shares the names of ED acceptances with each other so that there is no funny business. But the financial aid issue is a real one, and I am sure it happens to many families once the offers are made.

@Daniel5664 CAS but hopefully doing dual degree with CoE although that might be too much work)))

does anyone know if Cornell has number of available slots for each major within each of their seven colleges?

@flagship2000 I believe CALS does. I’m not sure about the rest.

@Bornellgang south coast

@Chelydraroach nope… I don’t have any farm animal experience but I have small animal clinic experience :frowning:

so stressed out rn…good luck everyone

Where is the email??? OMG! So nervous!

So I was talking to my kid about being anxious to receive the email about the decision time and instructions… and they were like " Really Dad, you’re anxious over an email that only has instructions? no actual decision? stop stressing out so much"… this kid has so much more chill than me

Will there be a 2022 ED results thread? I haven’t seen one yet.
