Cornell RD Class of 2022 Applicant Thread

Accepted

Forget to mentioned, international student.

The decisions are not out yet. Did you get a likely letteR? I don’t think internationals get likelies.

Hey everyone: just to clarify something that I see being debated. The “likely letters” that Cornell sends out are not only for diverse students—they are mostly for the university’s most competitive applicants that Cornell really wants to attend. The likely letters are a way for the school to get these applicants excited about Cornell, often times before they even hear back from any other schools.

In my case, I received a likely letter because I was nominated as a Tanner Dean’s Scholar (a group of about 50 highly qualified applicants, per the letter). I am not a diverse student (white and Jewish), so this letter came as a shock. Speaking from my experience, I felt extremely honored and excited by the prospect of attending Cornell because of this letter (more so than I did before). It was my first “acceptance,” and I can genuinely say that the odds of me attending Cornell are greater than they were before this letter. And yes, part of that is due to the Scholars program, but part of that is also due to the simple fact that I was notified early of my likely acceptance. Hope this helps everyone understand the effects of a likely letter a bit more, and I wish everyone the best of luck for March 28th!!!

Can you not? I mean really…

Can you not? I mean really…

Hey guys! ED deferred applicant here to join the RD convo. We have ten days to go! Hope everyone’s doing well (:

@happysnappy you’re in high school? you write like a mum. whole thing reads like a verbose excuse to humble brag. congrats tho

yup, they only send it to certain applicants who have already been admitted for that reason

@lizzy1234 thanks so much for your writing advice—i’m actually flattered that i sound like an adult to you!! evidently my writing was good enough for Cornell, so sorry if it came across as a humble brag…my intention was only to provide information regarding the other side of a “likely letter” that doesn’t have to do with diversity, and also regarding how it has affected my decision to attend. good luck though!!!

@FiringSquad What are you referring to?

@MrElonMusk he ( @FiringSquad ) was probably referring to the fact that @happysnappy managed to brag in their post apologizing for bragging lol

Ha @happysnappy with how you talk you already sound like a Cornell graduate.

yo why did s/he switch up and start using lowercase i’s tho. how do u do, fellow kids? lol

@lizzy1234 okay but actually lol. Use lowercase, bad punctuation, throw in a few lol’s and omg’s and you’ll blend right in

I am getting so confused about what is going on here right now

@MrElonMusk 10 days til ivy day and all’s quiet so people just analyze others’ posts at this point.

I say lay off of posters and keep snarky comments in check.

god yall are jerks. sorry that someone got into cornell while ur still waiting…

@MaizeScream a lot of us replying already gotten in too… but we’re not spamming with paragraphs of our accomplishments…
