ED is kind of deceiving because while the acceptance rate it higher, there are generally better candidate applying that way. However, go for it. You are agreeing to pay the tuition, but a school like Cornell has a very large endowment and can nearly meet your EFC or what the CSS profile provides them compared to good schools who are slightly lesser that will for sure cost more (ex. Villanova is expensive as anything!)
Is CALS thought of less than the private colleges and are do people usually know others that are in different colleges?
No. CALS is not thought less of! There is a ton of class flow between colleges. I took courses in Arts, Ag, Hum Ec, and even Law as an undergrad. Nothing is segregated by college.
What is your intended major? Be sure you are picking the right college to apply.
good luck today!!! cannot believe this dAY is finally here. and we are quarantined!
I’m going to apply for Biology & Society (pre-med track) which is available in both arts and CALS but im choosing cals because of these reasons:
- B.S. not B.A.
- smaller applicant pool (idk if this is a good thing or not)
- I feel as though I can answer the CALS supplement prompt much better than the CAS prompt
- you immediatly start in your intended major
- slightly higher acceptance rate (9.5 vs 11.4)
@Luckyjade2024 let us know your outcome!!
thank you…I will…I’m so nervous
Good choice…if you are really sure, there is no doubt I would do ED …you will have a much better chance.
@Luckyjade2024 how did it go?
Good choice…if you are really sure, there is no doubt I would do ED …you will have a much better chance.
Transfer option…thanks for asking
@Luckyjade2024 after looking over the Cornell RD 2024 page, I am HUMBLED by the amount of qualified rejects who were outright rejected. I believe Cornell only gives transfer option to select students, so definetly something to consider.
Thank you! I’m not sure I want to live my entire freshman year in one school…looking to leave and counting the days for another.
Also, making friends and enjoying college life to the fullest will be hard knowing I’m leaving etc and going through the entire process again next year.
The flip side is I will have 3 years at Cornell.
So hard. Getting deferred and now TO…I feel like I may be spinning my wheels and chasing something that is not meant to be.
I’m going to take a few days to digest it all.
