I was hoping anyone who knew about physics at Cornell could help me decide between UR and CU, here’s the link to my post on the UR forums:

thanks

There is a surprising lack of credible reviews of the top undergraduate physics programs to be found online. But here is one put out by Bright Hub—they put Cornell’s undergrad physics in the top 10 (at number 6):

[Top Undergraduate Physics Programs](Ranking of Top Undergraduate Physics Programs - Bright Hub)

Then there is a USNWR review for graduate physics—they put Cornell in the top 10 (at number 7). They list UR at number 52. A strong graduate program can have a very positive impact on the undergraduate level:

Of course, it would be nice if a physics major from Cornell sees your post and responds with some first hand experience. In any event, I wish you good luck in making your choice.

Cornell has an amazing physics program, and an even more amazing Applied Physics program (ranked #1 in country a few years ago!). There are obviously other factors in choosing colleges, but Cornell definitely has a much more superior physics department than U of Rochester.

I already responded in UR thread, so I’ll shut up here. Except to say if I was looking at Rochester, I’d want to lok at Geneseo too.

Thanks for the rankings Colm and the information equilibrium, it’s a little late to think of new schools to apply to monydad… but that probably would have been a good school to apply to.
