Counter bar stools

Wayfair has lots to choose from - reasonably priced - many come as a pair - some look a lot like the pottery barn ones above

I’ve loved Thomas Moser since I worked for an interior designer who used his stuff in the 1990s, but I just can’t bring myself to pay those prices! We almost bought a back less swivel stool I from Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel when my son found a stool from Ikea that was so cheap we figured even if we ended up hating them they cost what one of what we’d been considering. The have held up well and are very comfortable. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/stig-bar-stool-with-backrest-black-silver-color-80155205/ $20.00!!!

For those that have hardwood floors, think about how you will avoid scratching. (Our wood stools are light and easy to lift as you pull out, but we still put felt pads on the bottom of the legs).

That’s why I like the pedestal stools we got. The bottom is felted, so it glides smoothly on our wood floors.

I have to find a stool that is less than 14-15" deep. Not too many at that depth.

I have felt pads on all my furniture because I have hardwood floors in the whole house, including the kitchen.

@iglooo - That’s why we have the saddle style stools…I didn’t want the stools sticking out when not in use. We bought ours at Arhaus but they’ve been discontinued.

I love Arhaus. Do they have a replacement?

@Iglooo - Unfortunately not. Everything I saw when I tried to search has backs
.

Felt pads on the legs of stools will prevent scratching of the wood floors.

Another website which has nice quality stools which are customizable (backless or no arms):

I bought metal chairs for our large island and very happy with the quality.

Before purchasing from Pottery Barn, I suggest you look at an example of the bar stool. Just recently ordered some night stands and dresser for our bedroom and in-store only had the tall chest on display. We got a good price but very disappointed in the quality and customer service was a nightmare if you plan to have it delivered. Of course this all took place during the beginning of Covid and stores were closed. Hopefully things are better now. Just an FYI.

“Felt pads on the legs of stools will prevent scratching of the wood floors.” - Agreed. But what about stool styles with more of a stainless frame, in place of legs? Is there a felt thingy for those? (Not in a rush to replace my 25 year old wood stools… but maybe when we redo the kitchen someday - fun to dream)

Some come with felted bottoms (like ours) and some have Teflon thingies on the bottom of the legs a la “moving men.”

I’m going to pop into Pottery Barn next week assuming they are open and see if they have anything on display. I have felt pads under all the furniture on the wood floors. I want to also see if I can find anything with no back at all to sit in and see how that feels.
My wood floors need refinishing but that’s a huge project. My house is large and my family room, dining area, kitchen, entry way and living room all flow into each other. While the kitchen and family room are the areas that need refinishing my H says we would need to do the entire area. I can’t even get into the bedroom areas without walking through the wood area.

I went into Dania last week when they opened for in store business. Furniture stores are the BEST for social distancing because there is a lot of space. I saw only one other customer. Hope your trip works out. You really need to sit on bar stools to make sure you like them.

I really like those bar stools.

I was dead set against having bar stools in the kitchen without a back on them. I dislike back-less bar stools in a literal bar (ie, tavern), and I think that is what I based the decision on many years ago. Plus, I pictured our wee ones tumbling off!

But seriously, empty nesters here, and I spend approx. 4 minutes wolfing down any given meal. Back-less would be FINE and I wouldn’t be constantly catching an arm or shirt sleeve on the backs.

Can you have those sent to me?

We’ve gotten lots of compliments on these. They’re surprisingly comfy; the wooden seat is kind of tushie shaped. I had originally bought stools with backs, but they were too massive for the space. They would work well in lots of different spaces/styles.

My husband calls these “buttstools.” Despite the bare bones kind of look, they are comfy. My major problem with these stools was the height that could not be adjusted. Our counter is not a standard counter height, I guess the previous owner was a tall guy.

@Zinnia203 I like the looks of those. I haven’t heard of Wisteria before. I need to go to Pottery Barn today or tomorrow as I see the 20% off sale ends tomorrow.
@Midwest67 I hate eating at any bar stool. I don’t know why but I’ve always disliked not being able to put my feet on the ground even though 90% of the time I’ve got my feet on the rung.

I’ve started checking this thread because I would love to replace our 40+ year old bar stools at our kitchen counter. They’re not really bad but are obviously stained; reupholstering could be an option. They are right inside our front door so I would love to have something nice; they are almost the first thing you see when you enter. If anyone ever enters our house again… Husband sees no need to replace because they are still perfectly usable, so this is kind of wishful thinking. And I seldom use them because I don’t like sitting on high chairs; prefer feet on the ground.

I would want them with backs to hide the stuff we stack on them, and not too “leggy” - a clean look would be best. The kitchen is oak wooden cabinets and white subway tile counters (ugh). This thread inspired me to start looking around and so far I’ve come up with:
