Couple of questions

1) Do they interview you?

2) Stanford is my number one choice and although my gpa is a little low (3.5) I have taken a hard course load my junior year and continuing to take advanced classes my senior year. I also am a pretty good cross country athlete while being a young senior that should actually be a junior so my times would be much more marketable if I were a junior in my opinion. My question is should I even apply to Stanford and if so should I do so Early decision? And if I do apply Early Decision should I contact the coach and ask questions and what can I do to improve my chances of getting accepted into Stanford? I know coaches don’t have much push on who can and can’t get admitted to a university but maybe the coach can give advice on what times I should be hitting? I don’t mind not getting a scholarship as Stanford has been my number one school choice for a long time now and I want to be able to do everything in my power to get accepted if possible.

"For the 2010–11 admission cycle the Office of Undergraduate Admission will offer an optional alumni interview to applicants in Atlanta, Denver, London, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York City, Philadelphia, Portland (OR), Raleigh/Durham, Washington DC, and the states of Maryland, Massachusetts, and Virginia as part of a small pilot interview program. Following the admission cycle we will evaluate in the spring to determine whether or not to expand.

Interviews will be offered only to applicants who attend high school in selected zip codes within these areas. You may not travel to a pilot area to have an interview.

If you are eligible to be a part of the pilot interview program, an alumnus or alumna will contact you after you have submitted your application. You do not need to do anything – if an interview is available to you, you will hear from us. Please do not call or email the Office of Undergraduate Admission to request an interview and/or to find out if you are eligible for an interview.

Although we will make every effort to offer an interview to all eligible applicants in the pilot areas, please understand that due to limited resources in some areas, interviews may not be available to every candidate. Your application to Stanford will be considered complete with or without an interview."

There is no ED. Just REA. Apply anyway. You can try to be an athletic recruit, but for scholarship-qualifying athletes, Stanford tends to have more of a coaches contact athletes who catch their attention policy
Good luck…
