Covid -- Additional Booster?

I got RSV and flu at the same time, about 1.5 weeks ago. No side effects at all for me. The flu arm was very slightly sore for a day or so, couldn’t feel anything at all in the RSV arm. But I don’t usually get side effects from any vaccines, so I’m sure it’s a YMMV situation.

H and I had absolutely NO reaction to RSV vax, not even sore arm at injection site.

We felt so good, we went to get flu shot the very next day. Haha! Made appts at Walgreens for both and wanted the shots on different days so we could see if any reaction.

H had no reaction other than mild tiredness from flu shot. I had mild pain in arm at site of injection after flu shot.

I have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow. I called to make sure it is the new booster. They said yes but they aren’t sure they have enough to get through all the appointments tomorrow.

Just scheduled my Covid booster for Oct 3 (two weeks from today). Flu shot and RSV today.

We finally got our Covid Moderna Spikevax vaccination at Walgreens today, so canceled appointments we didn’t need any more. Better luck with Walgreens than waiting for CVS or RiteAid where we are. Glad to get it before traveling soon. Next up is potentially getting the RSV vaccination.

YLE notes the different rich country recommendations for COVID-19 boosters:

In other words, because the US health care system is lower performing and harder to access on average compared to those in other rich countries, the value of preventing a bad case of COVID-19 (including making it less bad) through vaccination is higher in the US than in other rich countries. Also, getting a bad case of COVID-19 in the US costs more in non medical costs (time off work, etc.), and people in the US are less healthy to begin with and more likely to get bad cases of COVID-19.

‘the value of preventing a bad case of COVID-19 (including making it less bad) through vaccination is higher in the US than in other rich countries’

Wow, I find that a concerning statement. Value to whom? The 6 month old taking a vaccine in order to provide value to someone else?

Other countries have looked at the data and see the questionable value of THIS particular vaccine to those under 30. They have decided the risks do not justify the ‘wins’.

So if you have good health insurance, a great team of accessible providers then it might be a good choice to go with the more conservative recommendations given by those other countries.

Both themselves and others.

3 appointments, 3 cancellations, within a 5 day period. Feels like late winter 2021, when getting a vaccine appointment was like playing in the Hunger Games!

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried Walgreens yet? We had no luck with CVS or RiteAid.

One cancellation was from Walgreens, the other two from CVS.

Good luck! Hope you find something soon.

Thanks—heading out of the country in a few days, so thought we could get vaccinated last week, prior to the trip. Oh well…

So sorry. We’re also travelling out of the country in less than two weeks. Very happy we had no issues getting the vaccine last weekend.

After H’s insurance turndown Saturday, we were able to get our boosters this week. He got his Monday and I got mine today. Weirdly, H was told insurance didn’t cover the flu shot, which I knew was BS. They put it on the public plan for payment instead. Yesterday, we got an email from insurance reminding us to get our flu shots! When I went today, initially the tech said flu shot was not covered, though Covid was, and I said that can’t be true–mentioning their email which even recommended getting it at CVS where I was. She ran the card through manually and that time she said it was covered.

Not sure what’s going on, but all shots acquired so whatever.

Called a small locally owned pharmacy today. They said they hope to be administering the Covid vax next week (on Monday they had expected to be ready to go today). Pharmacist reported that one issue was difficulty with health insurers processing payment for the vaccine. I don’t have details; it sounded like an issue that was widespread.

We had Walgreen’s cancel on us this past Tuesday and have an appointment scheduled at CVS on Saturday (Pfizer). All of our prior Covid shots have been Moderna and we might have preferred to stick with that, though timeliness prevailed and it may be good to mix it up. Fingers crossed for all.

Made appointment last Friday for Monday 9/18 at local Walmart. Flu and Pfizer - no charge (through Oxford/United Healthcare in my Walmart profile) - and no more 20 minute wait after administration!?

In-store paperwork was quick, just signing the pre-filled form.

Got the Covid shot at CVS yesterday. They did ask us to stay in the store for 15 min but no one really cared. Arm is a bit sore and we both feel a little “off” today.

I was not asked to stay. Which was great–I was going to argue that after five previous shots, I probably was not going to have an adverse reaction with the sixth!
