CPAC rescinds invitation after recordings surfaced of Milo Y. allegedly defending pedophilia

Well, he was talking about 13 year olds. I wouldn’t put them in the category of ephebophilia.

Good riddance, Milo. Hope it is the end of your notoriety and that you just become a mere footnote to an ugly period in American politics.

It is also worth pointing out that Steve Bannon hired Milo at Breitbart.

Waiting for Bannon to also become a footnote…

Pedophilia is no joking matter. And now other instances of ‘celebs’ joking about it or admitting it are coming out of the woodwork. George Takei, Lena Dunham. And Woody Allen and Roman Polanski are once again being mentioned as offenders. I am glad Milo Y. is being shunned. All these people should be shunned. There should be no acceptance or tolerance of it. Pedophilia (I don’t even like that term) there’s no love involved. It should be called child rape and it is not a laughing matter.

?? Of course there are plenty of US citizens who are immigrants, and vote. Do you mean “undocumented immigrants” or “illegal aliens”? Many immigrants have been granted their US citizenship, though probably not enough.

If there was one election where libertarians had a chance, it was this one, with two loathsome candidates such as there were. Too bad they didn’t have a better candidate.

My take is that Milo wanted to a controversial figure. It looks like he flew too close to the sun. His 15 mins of fame are up I think.

Milo does not agree. Excerpt from his press conference in NYC after the tape surfaced:

He then goes on to to tell us that despite being dropped by Simon & Schuster, his book will in fact be coming out this year as planned with an “additional chapter.” He is launching a new “independent media adventure” and will announce new “Campus Tour” dates shortly in response to the demands of his millions of fans worldwide.

Sums it all up with this:

He then proclaims that “the United States has a colossal free speech problem.”

@HarvestMoon1 I did see his comments. I think it is just bluster from a fallen man. Nobody will give him the platform he wishes. Will be start a podcast? A blog? sure. But it will not reach beyond his fringe supporters who support him no matter what. Did anyone seem to care about the comments that Trump made on the Bus? His supporters never wavered. The same with this guy. He will attract those that share his views and look for confirmation of their views. They will eat this stuff up. The false news out to get the guy making waves. He wants to be mainstream but after this episode, he will not. I could be wrong. JMHO.

I suggest we contribute to his fall into obscurity by no longer continuing this thread.

“his book will in fact be coming out this year as planned with an “additional chapter.””
Yeah, anyone can self-publish.

I agree it is bluster and a last attempt at trying to stay relevant and garner attention. It will be too easy for anyone to dismiss him with a reference to the child sex talk. For all his racist, sexist, etc. anything goes talk, that is still a very taboo subject matter.

More absurdity revealed during his answering of questions by the press after his statement – he’s here in the U.S. on an O 1(b) Visa for having “demonstrated extraordinary ability in the arts or the media.”

I am thinking he had to be sponsored by Breitbart so perhaps that Visa will now be withdrawn.

My wife and I were watching the video clip in question, and my wife looked at me and said that he has serious mental issues if he can talk so blithely about a 13 year old boy with a man, or flippantly reply when the host talked about priestly sex abuse saying “Father X taught me how to give a great …” (blanked out refference to a certain sex act) and she said just the way he was talking it was apparent to her he wasn’t connected to what he was saying, and I tend to agree, I suspect personally his sexuality was all screwed up because (as he has said), he was abused as a young child.

When he talked about how relationships between a 13 year old boy and an older man, one in his 20’s or 30’s was positive, he claimed these were consensual and totally ducked the issue that for most kids that age, if not all, they can’t consent because adults have inherent power advantages over kids, kids are wired until a certain age to basically obey adults. He made it sound like the prohibitions were about sexual squeamishness, and for example totally ignored that many of those sexually molested by priests were in the teen category and how messed up many of them were by that happening. I think there is a question to be raised about sexual consent, about how old a kid has to be to give consent and why, and also the idiocy where states use the age of consent to go after a teen boyfriend or girlfriend for having sex with an under the age of consent partner, but that is a different topic, there does need to be some sort of cutoff, hopefully determined by logic and backed studies, but I doubt very much 13 is anywhere near the real time when a kid can consent.

I think Milo because he has gotten away with so much bomb throwing, saying things a lot of people find abhorrent, figured he could say anything and be supported by whoever the heck has been supporting him until now, and suddenly has found out that isn’t true. Classic example of he who lives by the sword, dying by it.

I agree 13 is not a legitimate age of consent, especially when it comes to a sexual relationship with adults. (That’s different from saying 13 year olds don’t have a life that involves sexual elements.) That’s 7th grade. Their body isn’t even fully grown, they’re still easy to manipulate, they’re kids, if their parents can’t take care if them they’re not left on their own in an apartment, they aren’t judged able to have enough judgement and life experience to handle their daily life.
On the other hand…
Some states in the US accept the rape of 12-13 year olds provided it’s by a lawful husband of any adult age. Or, if you prefer, parental consent for 12-year girls to marry whoever their parents want is legal in several us states.
I think the Washington Post had an article about it and there is occasional reporting about it under forced marriage, child brides, child marriages.

Well, there’s no denying that!

Just to be clear, I meant he is extra-ordinary in a really bad way.

So where does the “ability” come in?

Ability to incite violence from people across the political spectrum?

This recording has been on YouTube for ages, and I was aware of it months ago, as were many others. Milo isn’t a mysterious figure–he’s out in the open and his bigotry and abusiveness is well established.

I wonder if any colleges will want him now. I’d be a little surprised if they did.

I read that article. Clear child abuse blessed by the state because, well, they’re girls.

One point of clarification: Milo’s talk at UC Berkeley did NOT get cancelled because of protests by Berkeley students or faculty. In fact the university bent over backwards (hiring extra security, etc) to try to ensure that his speech would go on despite public pressure to disinvite him. It got cancelled on the scheduled day of the speech when the Black Bloc anarchists showed up at the peaceful Berkeley protest and began violently rioting - breaking windows and setting fires. The school then had no choice but to cancel for reasons of safety.

The Black Bloc people have no known connection to UC Berkeley or even to the town of Berkeley. They have been showing up and rioting at other people’s protests all over the Bay Area and in other cities for years. To suggest that UC Berkeley suppresses the free speech rights of conservatives is simply untrue. Conservatives get invited and speak on campus all the time, and you never hear about it because no one riots or even protests. In Milo’s case he did generate peaceful protests - not because he is conservative but because he is deliberately insulting and inflammatory. And unfortunately this one got enough publicity that the anarchists showed up and turned the protests into a riot.

Scipio is much better informed than the tweeter in chief. Which is, as they say, “Sad!” And the subject of this thread is getting exactly what he deserved. He was at Berkeley that day and knows that the true account is as stated in #58, but went all over the media lying about it in subsequent days.
