@Photoshoper It sounded like you had solved your existing roommate problem- I am glad. Sorry I wasn’t clearer - my point was that you now are in a great position to ask nuanced questions about how all of the different schools deal with dorm issues. It sounds like having a roommate is unavoidable. You were pretty much on your own to solve your issues before, but maybe other schools wouldn’t deal with things- like students playing music late or being in other rooms when they aren’t supposed to to be - the same way as your current school does. How much adult intervention is built into dorm life will tell you a lot about the school overall.

For future candidates: If you really need/want a single room your freshman year, it is worth asking about first-year housing during the admissions process.

For example, at Thacher, ALL freshmen are assigned singles so that they have a quiet place to retreat to for studying and reflection after a busy day.
