<p>More often than not a sign of mental illness. And frequently that illness is bipolar disorder. But even the mentally ill need to be held accountable.</p>

<p>JMO, but there is a normal range of anger/annoyance that healthy people experience when faced with “life’s ups and downs”. Once you’re displaying levels of anger that are out of that range of normal, that might suggest some kind of mental illness.</p>
<p>That’s the problem with allowing people to tote their guns. Yes, they are armed against the “bad guys”. But any given person can become the “bad guy”. THis situation is particularly scary in that this is an ex cop, someone with years of training and used to carrying the gun. Used to being in situations where he is tested and taunted. And for some reason he snapped. Dementia, mental illness, lost it…who knows. Not any comfort to the loved ones of the victim.</p>
<p>This shooting happened in my neck of the woods. I’ve already talked to two people who knew victim…they said he was a nice guy. The retired cop looked like he was wearing a straightjacket at his arraignment…he’ll probably end up getting probation or something light after it surfaces he was not all there mentally.</p>
<p>Doesn’t Florida depend on tourism? At some point, people are going to start wondering whether they want to vacation in a place where nutcases are allowed to carry guns and shoot you if they feel menaced by your snack food, as if Skittles and popcorn are dangerous weapons.</p>

<p>He was wearing a bulletproof vest w/o a shirt under (for some odd reason).</p>
<p>I don’t think he’ll get probation or anything too light even if it surfaces that he was not “all there” or is suffering from some mental illness or dementia or something.</p>

<p>The problem is that if this guy suffers from some anger issue, then most people would perceive him to be a nice guy…until they cross him.</p>
<p>I believe lizard was referencing to the victim: the man who was shot and killed.</p>
<p>I wonder if Florida will have a summertime court case again. It feels odd not having something to look forward on the news…</p>

<p>I am going to say it. He will have trouble using the stand your ground law because the person he shot was a white 40 year old married father. Now if he was hit with Skittles and not popcorn he may have had a defense.</p>
<p>The sad thing is that terrible stories of gun violence like this one, and the most recent school shooting, are so unsurprising.</p>

<p>Tom…the Stand Your Ground law doesn’t apply to this case because he could easily get away and he HAD gotten away earlier when he went to get a manager. No one was preventing him from getting away.</p>
<p>Don’t retired cops have hobbies like fishing or golfing anymore? Another area retired cop just got picked up here… charged with shooting at his wife with a pistol!</p>

<p>In Florida’s defense…we’re not the only state where shots have been fired today…or yesterday…or the day before. But for some reason we get the crazy stories…</p>

<p>It seems to be an interestingly-interpretted law and I’d put nothing past a Florida jury (no offense, Niquii). </p>
<p>However, with a white male victim, I do think he’ll be convicted.</p>

<p>I think they’re checking videotapes to see if this cop is the same person who bothered another lady for texting some time ago.</p>
<p>I think the alleged perp is almost certain to be convicted and any “stand your ground” defense is laughable. That said, the whole encounter seems odd. </p>
<p>What I get out of this is that the cop complained numerous times about the texting. The victim ignored him. Apparently, the theater has a rule against texting (as well as one against guns). The cop went to complain to a manager. He then returned to the theater alone. The alleged victim then asked the cop if the cop had reported him. Cop said “yes.” Alleged victim threw popcorn at him. Cop shot the alleged victim. </p>
<p>If this is accurate, the cop is out to lunch. But seriously…the victim’s behavior is questionable too.</p>
<p>I absolutely HATE people who feel the need to text during a movie. If you have to respond to a text when you’re at the movie theater, then excuse yourself, step out, deal with it, and come back. It’s happened to me, and that’s what I have done. When the theater is dark, and the movie is showing, it can be very distracting to have someone next to you, or in front of you texting.</p>
<p>That being said, this was before the movie even started, so this guy, I think, had every right to be texting or whatever (H has been known to play video poker on his phone while waiting for a movie to start) while waiting. That the cop even began this altercation over someone texting before a movie started is asinine.</p>
