Crazy! Retired 71yo cop kills a moviegoer over TEXTING!

He probably forgot there were cameras when he was picking his nose at the hearing too. Ewwww.

For disclaimer, I don’t listen to orders/demands/commands given around by people with no authority if what I’m doing isn’t against the rules or isn’t disturbing the peace. If I disagree with what they command of me, I will politely tell them I will not do whatever they are ordering; however, I will try to become less “obnoxious” in their eyes.

With that said, I would not “fall over myself” to apologize to someone if what I was doing bothered them. If I had the sound on on my phone and someone asked me if I could silence it, I would say, “I’m sorry. I’ll silence it”. Then I would proceed to silence and go about whatever I was doing. If, during the previews of a movie, someone asked me if I could turn off my phone, I would ask them why I needed to turn off my phone. If they commented on how the screen is annoying them or is too bright, I would reply back and say, “I’m sorry if it’s too bright. I’ll lower it in the meantime. But it’ll be put away by the time the movie starts.”

A lot of things “bother” people. But not all the time is someone going to adhere to the comfort of someone else. That’s why I somewhat prefer the chillax version of MYOB. I’m here chillin’ in my space. Why can’t you just chill in your space?

EDIT: Does anyone have a link to the movie theatre recording?

“What is really strange though, and this is the truth, the priest in casket…I swear one of his eyes cracked open a little bit to see what was going on when the phone was blasting la cucaracha right next to him.”

lol…did you feel like you should say 3 Hail Marys as a penance?

I think some enterprising soul should devise some kind of foldable thingy that would allow someone to glance at a phone and hide the glare in a dark room.

^^^Whenever I need to look at my phone I open my purse and look down into it. That way I can see the phone but no one else can.

Not a helpful tip for most men.

Funny you mention that, m2ck…Asia has not failed us in creating quirky products. They have a sweater that covers your phone allowing on you to see what’s on the screen.

Yup…we girls can do that.

Only men with man-bags can do that…and not many men in the US carry those.

As others have said, no one here except for 1 or 2 posters is talking about someone "ordering, commanding, demanding or << insert pejorative of your choice>>> anything. They are talking about someone making a polite, courteous request to which most people would respond in kind. Then there are those written about in the book Hunt linked up thread.

And then there are those who have commented of BOTH sides of the “request”, the commandeering request and the polite request.

Hunt’s point here is the key here.

Most people who are already predisposed to being polite and considerate of others would have already been doing everything they can conceive of to avoid being inconsiderate of others. They’re not the vast majority of those who you’d see acting in an inconsiderate manner in public…such as cell phone use in theaters.

And unfortunately, this was borne out in this shooting…though I still feel for the sake of accurate proportionality…that the shooter’s initiation, rule breaking, and escalation by gun was so much more substantial than what Chad Oulson did that to say both are jerks is effectively excusing the shooter’s ginormously greater offense and inconsideration.

Especially considering he not only injured the widow, but also put 25 other people at serious risk.

A factor cited by a legal commentator who said in addition to the second degree and aggravated assault charges already filed, the shooter could have also been charged with 25 counts of aggravated assault…one for each of the other patrons/witnesses present in that theater when the shooter pulled out his gun and shot.

Again it sounds like a case of “but maaa, he started it”. Does not matter who started it. Both participated in the escalation, pushed each other’s buttons and both fueled the fire. Again, NO, Oulson shouldnt have been shot, but no, he is not blameless. Sounds like both should have read the book Hunt linked… Unfortunately only one can.

m2ck,
Some men carry messenger bags. They seem to be growing in popularity.

Just catching up on the hearing videos and, MAN, this judge is hilarious!

"Funny you mention that, m2ck…Asia has not failed us in creating quirky products. They have a sweater that covers your phone allowing on you to see what’s on the screen. "

Do you have a link?

“Some men carry messenger bags. They seem to be growing in popularity.”

Very true, but I only seem to see men carrying them to and from jobs or on business trips. I’ve never seen a guy carry one to a theater or purely recreational outing…like women do purses.

“Just catching up on the hearing videos and, MAN, this judge is hilarious!”

Which ones are particularly funny?

"As others have said, no one here except for 1 or 2 posters is talking about someone “ordering, commanding, demanding or << insert pejorative of your choice>>> anything. They are talking about someone making a polite, courteous request to which most people would respond in kind. Then there are those written about in the book Hunt linked up thread.”

Ok…so suppose that Reeves did first VERY POLITELY ask Oulson to turn the phone off. And, suppose that Oulson was SUPER RUDE in response. Why would Reeves say anything more to him? If I made a polite request and got a rude response, I’d back off (and maybe move). If Reeves was super nice, and Oulson was super rude, then Reeves should have realized that he was dealing with an unreasonable person and back down (and move).

I think the fact that Reeves didn’t back down (whether he was nice/rude or whether Oulson was nice/rude) is very telling. He was determined to “get his way”.

Well, that’s probably when Reeves left and went to tell management isn’t it? Then when he came back Oulson taunted him with the tattle-tale stuff. They got into a back and forth - Oulson stood up and grabbed his popcorn and threw it in his face. Now, that is pretty rude. Even ruder is throwing the phone at him if that happened. Shooting is also rude so I suppose so they were both rude. But, who cares? Reeves either feared for his life or he didn’t. Rude is not a crime.

LOL, you’ve never met my BIL, apparently, who not only carries around a messenger bag, but at other times he carries a leather motorcycle saddle bag. You would think that meant he had just ridden a motorcycle somewhere and thatw why he had the saddle bag. That would be a reasonable assumption, but it would on many occasions be wrong.

I tried my hardest to find it. It’s not coming up on Google images. I’ve only seen it on the black hole for pictures that is Facebook. I’ll try to look again, but currently I’m not seeing anything.

“Shooting is also rude”

lol…it’s a bit more than “rude”. It’s a death sentence.

Okay, really rude.lol.
