We canceled a card once…Then a year or two later we received a bill for the card!
Apparently, a number was entered for someone else’s purchase but a typo was made and it matched the number we once had. Instead of rejected it as a closed card they charged us and sent a bill! When we called to dispute it they told us that no card is ever truly closed. Huh?!
(Of course, we did not have to pay the bill and we’ve never had anything like that happen it again…but that was a weird story and I had a hard time believing that no card is ever really closed…)
@momofadult, I’ve generally had good experiences with Citicards but this time they’ve outdone themselves with incompetence.
I don’t blame you for not wanting to keep a card from a company that can’t handle things correctly! I hope the incompetence isn’t spreading, I opened a Citi recently for one of my kids to use short term as he gets established. I’ll make sure it’s carefully monitored.
Costco may be going to Visa, but I bet that the affinity cash back will only apply to their branded Visa card.
VH, Amex isn’t accepted everywhere, so if you use your credit cards in lieu of cash, make sure you have options until you get a new card established and in your hands.
