Credit Gurus--clarifications about current rules

Pretty shocked–D applied for a Costco AmEx card today with NO photo ID & no Costco card on hand. She was approved minutes or less after the Costco employee typed in the data & she typed in her SS # (encrypted). She has only the “income” we give her to pay her room & board but still got a credit limit that is about 25% of that “income”!

My niece, on the other hand, who has a full-time job, held three credit cards for many years before deciding to close them all was declined when she applied for a Costco AmEx card, when she used to have a higher credit rating than her parents! She’s never been late on a bill payment.

I don’t get it!

We’ve urged our D to use the Costco AmEx credit card, especially for electronic purchases, so she has more protection than she currently has with debit cards. She expects to use it just like we use ours–paying it off in full as soon as she gets the statement every month. She’s always been extremely fiscally responsible.

HImom, do either of then have student loans?

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using CC

No, at this time, neither D nor niece has any student loans (nor have either of them had ANY loans). Both have always paid balances & bills in full and promptly. Am still puzzled about niece’s rejection, as is the rest of our extended family.
