creepy or cool?

They did my neighborhood on a Sunday - son’s car is in driveway! Jeez, did they note his laundry coming out of the garage door into his car?
More than creepy.
MOre than fun to look at…

I think it’s pretty cool when looking for businesses.

If you have some spare time, use Google Street View to see the HQ of Google and see what you find. :)

I mentioned to my boss that I saw his car on Google street views, and his jaw dropped. He thought it was very creepy! The local Google office is located not far from where I work.

So I downloaded the update for my iPhone and the update includes Google street view. You bring up the map, the GPS pinpoints where you are, you click a button or two, and you see the street view of where you are (I saw my driveway). A couple more clicks sends a link to that street view to any email address. You just slide the pin elsewhere with your finger and you can see a street view of that. It’s pretty cool.

^^That is very cool!

we could have used that today- we did restoration work on an unnamed creek in Snohomish county on private land & the mapquest directions were not so good.
We asked a couple out walking for directions & got close enough so that we spotted the owners who went out to a main road to flag us down.
( however I wonder if Google has gotten out that far yet)

I think our pic is very old. Still has kids’ swingset in the back yard!

Here’s an interesting story about google street view.

[The world’s a stage on Google maps](http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/388028_googlestreet17.html)

No street view at our house. The aerial view is at least 2 years old. I can tell by the landscaping and what houses have been built since the photo was taken.

No street view of our neighborhood either. But the county website that lists property tax values has pictures available if you type in the address.

We are on street view as of several months ago. I don’t like it at all, although I have to admit that I’ve really enjoyed taking what amounts to virtual homecomings in areas in which I once lived. You can take the mouse and drag it down the street, looking all around as you go - amazing. We were also able to see the off campus house that S was talking about renting and the street it’s located on before being able to get there ourselves.

A friend of mine just demonstrated that for me the other night. First the phone zooms in (from outer space) to show her own home, then it “finds” you at your new location and zooms in on a view of that. It’s very cool to be able to do that on the phone, but I don’t think it quite gets down to street view, or does it? To me, it looked like the equivalent of Bird’s Eye View on Google Maps - from the air at a 45 degree angle to the house. Street view is so close to the street that you can read license numbers, see a cat in the window clearly, etc. Many houses that have been mapped out on Bird’s Eye aren’t Street Viewed yet.

huh- so I looked up my childhood home- it is on street view but they apparently took it late in the day- so with the shadows and the shrubbery, you can’t really see anything.

looks like the neighbors are doing some remodeling though.

Roshke:
Up until yesterday’s update the native GPS Maps function on the iPhone had the street map and satellite views with zoom. The satellite view is the same thing as the Google satellite view. You can also download a free Google app that starts with the earth in space and you can zoom in - probably what was demo’d to you, but that’s separate from the one already available in the native Maps function.

But in the free update of yesterday, iPhone added an additional function to their native GPS Map function that adds Google Street View to it in addition to the map and the satellite views. This is what I was referring to.

Next, I’d like them to add the Bird’s Eye views that are on Microsoft’s maps.live.com. If you haven’t checked those out, they’re very nice also and give a much better perspective than a satellite view and are a nice different perspective than a street view.
