I always leave the office for walk, errand unless it is either freezing or raining heavy and I pick up lunch to bring back unless I am going out for lunch with a friend or colleague. My office is right near Herald Square and on a nice day it is pleasant to grab at table at the small park on Greeley Square or in front of Macy’s… grab a table is the operative word as so crowded and if you want to sit in front of Macy’s better be prepared for an onslaught of noise.
I think the deal with long tables/workstations as management seems to think this is hip and might engage one in collaborating with colleagues but that is also the opposite of when you are told to be respectful of others and not distract them with conversation.
