Just because I’m a nice guy, I’m gonna do the OP a favor and summarize his or her anti-Stanford arguments in one convenient post:
(1) Stanford sucks.
If you go digging around the internet for Stanford-related articles, blogs, opinion pieces, etc., you’ll find this or that part which portrays Stanford in not the most flattering light. Therefore, Stanford sucks.
(2) Do not go to Stanford.
If you’re interested in STEM, you shouldn’t go to Stanford because there are too many of you. If you’re interested in non-STEM, you shouldn’t go to Stanford because there are too few of you. Therefore, if you’re interested in either STEM or non-STEM, do not go to Stanford. Even if you’re interested in neither STEM nor non-STEM or have no interests at all, do not go to Stanford because Stanford sucks.
(3) Stanford CS sucks.
Despite having the #1 ranked CS department in the world, Stanford CS sucks. Although there has never been any historical precedent for restricting access to CS (or any other majors), feel free to wildly speculate that Stanford may limit or cap CS enrollment; at the same time, bash Stanford for “feeding the CS frenzy.”
(4) Do not go to Stanford to study political science, public policy and related fields or if you want to enter law school or public service.
For example, there are more Yale undergrads than Stanford undergrads at Yale law school. Despite the fact that there are a lot more Yale undergrads applying to Yale law, go to Yale because Yale law school is #1 and does not suck; Stanford law school is only #2 and therefore sucks. It goes without saying that Stanford undergrad also sucks.
Currently, there are two Stanford undergrad alums serving on the US Supreme Court; none of the Justices went to Yale undergrad. Not to mention, two of the biggest and youngest rising stars in either party are Stanford undergrad alums: Cory Booker (who went to Yale law) and Julian Castro (who rejected Yale law for Harvard law). The former is considered a front-running 2020 Presidential candidate; the latter may one day become America’s first Latino President. But Yale is supposedly a no-brainer so you could follow in the footsteps of such intellectual heavyweights as Dubya.
