There is Wi-Fi access. I do not know how well it would work in Bancroft though because any sort of reception sucks, but I do know that it works in most academic buildings. My T-mobile phone that usually has 4 bars everywhere only had 1 bar while I was in Bancroft–and that was when I had it next to the window. You can totally bring homework, I recommend it. The atmosphere of the entire campus only motivates you to do homework–so much so that I tried learing some Mech. E. homework from one of my mids room-mates. Every mid there is so willing to answer any question you could ever think of, so ask up! During class you only observe, nothing is expected from you. You can visit the gift shop on Saturday after the program ends. I recommend a visit to the Midshipman Store, if your Midn has time to take you. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays so you would have to find time. I was only able to go for about 5 minutes before class on Friday.

BRING A COAT!!! I swear that the entire campus is made of stone. It is freezing when you are walking to different classes. The first class I went to on Friday was on a PT boat. It was so cold that the salt water was freezing on the side of the boat we were on. All I had was a sweatshirt because I live in Utah and figure it is just as cold her as in Maryland. I was sooooo wrong. I almost froze to death on that boat…

Our (my family) bags got lost in Denver. I packed most everything I needed in my carry-on, but my shampoo/soap and other liquid toiletries were gone. The mids can get almost anything for you, so if you forget something it isn’t a big deal. Bring some snack food though, because your first meal there is a ‘box lunch’ that is probably more than 3 years old…

I will probably think of more things tomorrow so check back here to see if I remember anything.

Did you go to Summer Seminar? And what state are you from?

-Utah-represent

No, I didn’t go to Summer Seminar (I was rejected lol) but I did get offered an appointment to USNA (according to my Congressman’s aide, the offer of appointment packet will be mailed this coming Tuesday, March 6. I was initially given an offer to NAPS, but that was before they saw my January 2007 SAT score where I made a significant improvement in my math score, from 560 to 670) though. The feel I get from the campus will greatly help me decide where I want to go, either USMA or USNA (I was given an offer of appointment from USMA a few weeks ago; I also went to their Summer Seminar)

Oh and I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area region of California by the way.

And lastly, thanks for your input. I can’t wait to go.

Are you bringing any family members with you?

Yeah, my mom and dad are coming. We want to check out Washington D.C. after the visit and it’s been a while since we’ve had any sort of vacation. This will be the farthest they’ve been in America (we’ve only gone as far as Las Vegas and we’re a Filipino immigrant family, so we’ve been to the Philippines, but this trip will be the farthest we’ve been away from home in the US)

I guess anything is possible…
but the question I would have to ask is “why would you want to?”

The visit flies by…instead of losing yourself in cyberspace, use the time to look around and observe…everything!

As for doing HW…would suggest speaking to your teachers ahead of time…get your assignments for the week and do them before you leave for CVW… that way you can relax and just soak up the expereince… ask tons of questions…and make the most of your visit there!

^^^^He is right. You could take a laptop to watch a movie on or something Friday night, but it probably would be better to wander the yard with a midn. Even if your midn host is busy doing homework, he probably has a buddy that would be more than happy to walk around with you and answer questions. The mids love ‘drags’ because when you are with them they do not have to ‘chop’ (run down the halls and yell ‘BEAT ARMY! or GO NAVY!’ every time they turn a corner) or do any other plebe tasks.

You have my sympathies. ;)

Don’t bother with the laptop. There are better things to see while there than cyberspace.

Good counsel, boaf 'em. :)

ah, that would be a “she”! ;)

AH! I apologize, ma’am.

lol ok sweet. One more question- do we need to bring money for food once where there or will we get to eat for free?

Also, how is the food over there by the way? At West Point, they said they have the best food, but that can obviously be a biased opinion.

Well, it USED to be GREAT. Sadly, however, I’ve been hearing some distressing reports on the subject, lately. :(

I hope it’s just because they have King Hall opened up like a cheap soup can.

i’ve been told west point’s is better from numerous exchange whoops and squids. whatever king hall lacks in quality they make up (i guess?) in abundance. you’ll eat in king hall whenever your mid eats in king hall-you will always have the option of a free meal, but your mid might order pizza or some take out.

however, the chili con carne at noon meal today was great!
