@HImom - how long has it been that they haven’t got back to you?
About 24 hours. I figure that means they’re not as interested in moving their vehicles as I had hoped (or the salesman is personally not too interested). Oh well, it makes me look at the other options that I was not going to look at, which is probably a good thing, even though it will make me probably more confused.
24 hours? Well…your choice…but I don’t think that’s an unreasonable amount of time. And like I said…if the car is YOUR top choice…go there.
Guess it’s not really your top choice.
They are playing a game and waiting for you to call them back. It’s an annoying tactic. I always hold out, and they usually call 2-3 days later. If not, go back and tell them you’re only dealing with the sales manager from now on. You’re under no obligation to deal with a particular sales person.
Did they tell you the Rav4 is completely redesigned for 2019? It should be hitting the dealerships any time.
@HImom I forgot to add this link to my post above. It has some great tips on tactics used by “stealerships” https://www.bankrate.com/loans/auto-loans/7-secret-tactics-that-car-salesmen-hope-you-dont-know/
I also think that 24 hours is not unreasonable. They may be short on help during the holiday week - or busy as heck. Or it could be a waiting ploy as mentioned above.
If the car is really for you I wouldn’t let a salesman or a lack of a call back get in the way of your purchase. I personally dread the whole car buying process but I know it’s necessary to get wheels in my driveway! You’ve got to play the game(s).
Yeah, I will clean out my van and go there, maybe tonight, an hour before they close, as we recommended by a former car salesman and manager online. I think it would be good to trade the old van in after we figure out a final price.
@HImom it’s what…afternoon there? Maybe he will contact you by the end of the work day.
Or maybe he has other buyers there and doesn’t need to contact you.
Next week is the end of the month. In our experience, that’s a good time to buy a new or used car. The dealers have monthly quotas and they want to meet those…so closing a deal before Nov 30 could be important. Might be a better time to “bargain” but really on some cars, there isn’t much movement to be had.
Good luck!
Yeah, thanks. For some reason, Toyota charges extra for white and gas very few light interiors in their inventory.
Have you looked for preowned certified Toyota? We bought Camry for our two kids. Both grey interiors, one white and one blue exterior. Previously leased. Great cars.
Thanks–have searched and there is very low inventory of used Prius Primes in our state. Only one vehicle and it’s bright red–not interested in it.
Well…it’s a couple of hours til that dealership closes…right?
Yes, we DO have two vehicles that work, so if it doesn’t happen soon, it will have to wait until later when I have time to address this again. Ideally, I’d like to trade my vehicle in to get this new one. We shall see whether they are interested in making the sale or not.
I’m currently dealing with the main branch, but there are two other branches as well that I can contact.
Well, still no offer from either of two salesmen! Seems they really aren’t all that interested in selling their inventory. They have 3 cars that fit my specs but no price from either guy—weird!
Many salespeople want you to come in so that it is harder for you to make them compete against each other and it is easier to upsell to something more expensive (or so they think). While that may be effective with many naive car buyers, it is annoying to the buyer who knows exactly what s/he wants and will buy it in a quick easy sale if there is no cattle manure involved.
Well, FINALLY got a price but it’s full list price plus doc fee and reg fee and and taxes he didn’t include the cross rails we wanted so it’s not what we asked to have quoted. So the price will have to be increased—whoops.

We already went in and drove the vehicle and know what we want. It would be nice to get SOME discount on something. They have 3 of this car on their lot at the trim level plus exterior we want. It’s not rocket science.
Have you tried Costco car pricing?
Yeah, the monopoly in town doesn’t participate. Looks like you have to pay manufacturer’s price or buy another brand.
Actually the price is above list by about $2k.
Bastards. Try countering… what do you have to lose?
How much would it be to ship a car from the mainland?
Our local Toyota folks were not catching mice fast enough so to speak. That is the reason kiddo ended up with a Crosstrek instead of a RAV4. The Toyota idiots offered $2k for our trade in. Way to insult a customer! He turned around and sold it dirt cheap to a recent immigrant in dire need of a car for twice as much (still way below the book value).
