darn it! submitted, but already realized a mistake

i had previously said i was NOT a first-gen college student cuz my sis is in college. but then someone told me more recently that that doesn’t matter, it’s the parents that matter. so i AM a first-gen. but i didn’t change the answer to that question and i just realized that upon looking at it. :-/ what should i do?

Email them. Call them. Fax them an updated version.

They allow that  And honestly, it happens all the time what with updates in ECs, etc.

First: Congratulations on submitting!

First gen probably won’t matter much for admissions, I think it is more for statistical purposes and recruiting (but I am occasionally wrong). The best you can do is send an email to admissions. Make it to-the-point. Include your name, USC ID # and then say “I am a first-generation college applicant, but I did not indicate that on my application. Please correct my error. Thank you.”

No need to explain why it was marked differently.

Email contact form: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/contact/contactus.html

thanks, guys! i’ll email them soon then. and yeah, it’s great to have that part done, but now i gotta finish and submit my screenwriting supplements. :(

Where does it as whether you are first generation or not? If you did not put anything under education for you parents, they assume you are fist generation. I think there is a small boost for first generation. SAT scores and such are taking in that context and consideration.

they actually asked “are you first gen?” and i marked “no” but yeah, i didn’t put anything for parents’ education, so…

If my parents were immigrants but they got degrees in the US, does that mean I’m not first-gen?

If your parents went to college, you are not a first generation college student. In this case, “first generation” isn’t referring to immigration, but education.
