Good luck everyone! Our DD applied RD over the break. She’s admitted to several selective LACs through EA but this would be her top choice. (But didn’t want to ED). We’re from NE and her brother graduated from Dartmouth. Just read they had a record # of ED applicants and accepted 606; plus (if I read right) 74 QB matches. Dart plans to enroll 1200 in the '28 class so that would leave 520 spots for the thousands of RDers. Like I said, good luck everyone! We’re hopeful-- but very realistic.
Anyone else’s child not yet received portal access? S24 submitted his app on Tuesday afternoon but hasn’t gotten a portal email yet. He still needs to submit his peer recommendation and has been led to understand he can do that through the portal. All other schools have been very quick to send a portal link (within 24 hours of application) which is why I’m asking.
S24 just received an invitation for an interview - is this common or at all determinative?
In the past, at least, I believe it’s been based on alumni interviewer availability.
No. Based on availability of alumni interviewers in your area.

Are there instances where candidates get admitted without an interview?
Yes, of course. Interviews are for the most part non-evaluative because they’re not able to interview every kid. So it would be unfair to penalize a kid simply because they live somewhere where there aren’t alumni available to conduct interviews.
I say “for the most part” because my hunch is that, if anything, interviews are more likely to do harm than good. If a kid completely and utterly blows an interview, I suppose that would not be good.
Please don’t stress about the interview.

Thanks for your guidance and kindness in these times of stress! It’s just getting harder for kids to get into colleges they have dreamt of and worked towards - denying themselves so much over the years.

I didn’t receive pre-visit invitation. Could you share what the email invitation looks like?

Have a lot of interviews been happening? S24 still waiting and hoping.
Most of these schools have trouble meeting demand since interviews are all done by volunteers, and, as you know, applications are all way up from a few years ago.
(and they really don’t matter much, when they matter at all)

Interviews are informational, not evaluative. So, don’t worry. I once came across a case a couple of years ago when a candidate was admitted WITHOUT an interview. Therefore, it happens. All the best!
Yes, absolutely so was curious if any chatter about going the way of say Yale or Duke and prioritizing certain applicants. Both say “need more information”, but I think it means slightly different things at each.
