Dartmouth Class of 2028 Official Thread

I googled and found a link with data:

In 2018-2019 applicant year there were about ~7000 volunteers and ~17,000 interview reports submitted…

Thanks for the info. 17000, that’s more than what I expected. It makes sense to me now.

The whole thing is a bit of an odd process! Not gonna lie…

That said not entirely new, my dad did alum interviews (not for Dartmouth) in the 80s!

No, I don’t think so. I don’t even think the application has gone through cursory review when interviews are assigned. It’s simply based on availability of interviewer.

Any one got interview for international locations?

Same process for international and US interviews, just a function of having enough volunteers in your area

Did anyone receive the dreaded fin email yet?

Whats the dreaded fin email?

Basically portal astrology…but there is apparently a strong correlation between getting a generic/personalized financial aid-related mail (asking you to submit more financial aid docs) and actually getting accepted/waitlisted. Many many people who get a personalized email from a FA officer are apparently accepted. Cannot confirm since I applied this year too but wanted to know if anyone got that email!

Has anyone listened to “Admissions Beat”, hosted by Lee Coffin, Dean of Admissions at Dartmouth? There are a ton of podcasts that he has hosted (since COVID?) about the admissions process at select universities, and non-select, that is crazy informative! I’m totally obsessed and wish I had found it earlier! Love love love it and if you have time google search it. It took me to Spotify where I could listen to all that have been done. Kinda too late for those waiting for a decision, but anyone with students in the lower HS classes you need to listen to these behind the scenes podcasts from the professionals. Nice to know that real, caring, funny, and amazing people are behind the curtain making decisions, and they love what they do.

Why would it be “dreaded” then?

I can confirm my kid got an email from the fin aid department and was accepted ED. I am a personal believer in this particular piece of astrology. I find it hard to believe the fin aid department is asking for information from students the school is not admitting.

Oh cool! Dreaded because of the anxiety not getting it yet gives us😭 Congratulations to you tho!!!

No fin aid email… I really want my S24 to get good news!

if your fa info (required), no email is very normal.

So if we got all of the required documents in, it’s normal to not get an email?

That makes sense (logically). Some people also claimed that the dates on their fin aid checklist changed (you can find them using the inspect tool). Honestly, it will prolly always be impossible to know for sure.

I am not domestic but isn’t there some change with FAFSA (and other fin aid docs for domestics) that delayed the process a bit? Besides we still have some time until Ivy Day.

My D23 applied for financial aid last year, got no emails about it as all her docs were in, and was accepted in RD.

Ah.

All this stuff is complete conjecture / astrology so should be taken with one or two grains of salt. It’s fun to conjecture but I realize it a) gives some people false hope and b) stresses out others needlessly.

That said…the scenarios are:

  1. No email
    a. Kid is getting admitted but they have all the docs they need so nothing to ask
    b. The kid isn’t getting admitted so there is no need to ask for anything

  2. Getting an email
    a. Customized email. I believe that this is unambiguously good
    b. Generic email. Who knows? Possibly just an auto-generated email when the application has been dispositioned one way or the other.

So not getting an email is not necessarily bad, but getting a (customized) email is necessarily good.

FWIW, my kid fell into 2b. A generic email saying the FA package was incomplete (which it wasn’t).

I got a customized email. What does this mean? When are Likely letters sent?
