@soxmom :))
Our son is borrowing a longboard for the summer to help him get around campus more quickly. His definition of āfarā and mine are a little different! But the skateboard did help him move his belongings from Butterfield to his summer room at Panarchy more easily.
Iām also laughing at AbouttheSameās story about trying to get luggage to the Dartmouth Coach in the snow. Our kid had a few occasions freshman year when he got stuck trying to carry massive quantities of luggage in a rush to the Coach stop because he didnāt leave himself quite enough time. They grow up and figure it out eventually!
California kids can have a slow learning curve when it comes to snow. Right?
@sdteak I got a small lock box from Amazon for my DS ā20. It comes with a wire to secure it to a bed or other post but he never uses the wire. He does find it a useful place to keep his passport, credit card and some cash. Theft doesnāt seem to be a problem except for jackets at the frat parties on cold nights!!!
^^ Do not bring a black North Face fleece to a party. You will not go home with your own jacket.
@AboutTheSame : he grew up skiing near Donner Summit, so thought he had snow all figured out. Having grown up in the East and Midwest myself, I had a feeling he didnāt really grasp the idea of snow and ice that stay on the ground for months at a time!
The snow didnāt get to my daughter as much as it getting dark by 4:00 in the winters. When I would visit, I was ready to go to bed by 7!
Does anyone here know when the kids will find out the dates of their specific outdoor orientation trip? Itās hard not being able to plan out the end of the summer yet!
@soxmom I hope itās soon! Itās been a L-O-N-G wait.
@sdteak, it just came out today, in case you hadnāt seen.
D was assigned climb/hike for Trips. I think itās finally beginning to sink in for her that this is really happening. She is now anxious to find out about housing. Personally, Iām looking forward to move in and being able to visit all the places that have been mentioned in this thread.
Well, just had the quintessential experience of a California parent with a kid at school thousands of miles away - dislocated shoulder and at DHMC! Good thing he is resourceful and resilient.
I hear you. Rugby concussions, strep ⦠DHMC has good care.
DHMC is an impressive place. Dislocated shoulders are a common injury, and DHMC will do a great job getting him back to school.
I hope everythingās ok, and that theyāve got some folks to help if needed.
BTW, word from our son is that Sophomore Summer is great! Hard work, for sure, but a dip in the Connecticut provides a good break.
Soph Summer was a blast. We met many of S established friends and family members. We explored the campus and went on a canoe and kayak paddle on the River, as well as some short hikes in the area. We dined at Louās and Elixir (White River Junction). Have fun this weekend!
@Mirmark thanks for the concern and support. @bluebayou and @AboutTheSame , thanks for the encouraging words. As everyone has said, DHMC did a great job, his friends have been supportive, his profs and boss provided the flexibility he needed and now that the pain is substantially less, heās able to type! Another x-ray and orthopedist next week, and hoping they get him into physical therapy very soon, so he can get started on rehab. He loves to rock climb and swim, so Iām hoping he has a thorough recovery. In any case, the care has been terrific.
^^forget typing for class, as long as teh millennials can text, all is right with the world. hahahahaha
Any thoughts on or experience with the service called Dartdorm from whom students can rent a mattress (Full XL) for the school year? Their website is dartdorm dot com.
