Math Placement: Any 2014 parents out there? Was your student able to tell their placement for math for the coming year (based on AP/IB, etc. classes). The math dept. sent an email with info and it said there would be a map to placement courses, etc. but it doesn’t appear updated. With my student leaving for doc trip, traveling, etc. we just were trying to figure the placement out. The message also did say that some may not have updated course placement in the system until orientation. Just like to be ahead of the game…thanks

(PS The 4 yrs. of highschool flew by, can’t imagine the 4 yrs. for college; although I hve an only child, so I will now have alot of free time)

Please relax. You appear to be living vicariously through your child – which is understandable since s/he is your only one – but please try not to do so. I’m also an only child, and it drives me absolutely insane when my parents freak out over minor things, like my math placement. I’m growing up, and I need to learn to live independently and sort my own problems out. I suspect your child feels the same way. Let him or her figure this all out. It’s not terribly complicated, and a thousand other kids – literally – are doing it too. S/he will come to you if s/he really needs help. I promise.

With my mini tirade out of the way, here’s the answer to your question. The e-mail states, “Please note that the Banner system is continually being updated and these updates will not be complete until the beginning of orientation. So, if you look now, some of your information may be missing or incomplete.”

It’s almost time. I’ve memorized the maps of Vermont and New Hampshire. I’ve spent way too much time on Google maps. Saw a great movie about the Appalachian trail (“Southbounders”) and decided to bag the Montreal side trip and explore NH instead. Besides Hanover, we will check out the White Mountain region and Portsmouth. Thanks for all the pointers, and we will see you on the Green! Aloha!

If you go to Portsmouth, make sure you go to Strawbery Banke!

My S is just finishing up Sophomore Summer also. He stayed at school for spring/summer break–wanted to be there for senior week, I was told–and now would be perfectly happy to stay there until fall term. The fact that virtually none of his local friends would be around is really the deciding factor. I’m hoping that he agrees to come home for a few days, anyway. :)

Portsmouth is a great place to visit. If you are in need of shopping, go across the river to Kittery to the huge outlet mall. Great deals on J. Crew, AE, etc. Near Hanover is the great town of Woodstock. Great downtown and covered bridge. You can drive there in about 20 minutes.

Cool. Just looked at some pictures of Franconia state park. Looks very interesting. Portsmouth and Strawberry Bank seem interesting too, thanks to this thread for all these tips. I even checked out how Dartmouth football will fare this year. Looks tough. We are way too excited about becoming Dartmouth parents.

My daughter just left for her hiking Trip today. I hope that the fingers of Hurricane Earl don’t reach into the White Mountains! She was so excited to FINALLY be able to meet some '14’s…she’s the very last to go of all her friends here and this wait has been torturous for her. She just wants to get to Hanover! The week she’ll have at home in between Trips and Orientation will be a trial, I’m sure!

I’m looking forward to the Brown game November 13, it will be on Versus TV. @7:00 am here in the islands. I told my son to bring a sign to wave for the cameras.

please let us know how her hiking trip goes. S will be on a kayak trip Sept 9. He says he is having trouble sleeping now with all the waiting and anticipation.

Magnum PI-When you’re in Franconia, take a drive to Sugar HIll (beautiful spot) and have breakfast or lunch at Polly’s Pancake Parlor-lovely place-good food.

I booked rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn @ Portsmouth. The alehouse and other downtown Portsmouth hotels were booked or too pricey. I also saw an ad that rooms in Dover were more reasonable, but wanted to be on the coast and see the Atlantic ocean. Also check hotels.com for ratings and reviews.

Thanks. I guess they are the regular width…was trying to find those covers seems like alot of places are out of them since most went back to college.

collegesgirl, I am fairly certain that the mattresses themselves have that sort of plasticized protective surface. We found that a foam mattress topper combined with a regular fitted mattress pad worked very well.
