Dartmouth Parents Thread

Have you looked at Craigslist? Usually, universities also maintain some kind of student housing clearinghouse…sorry not to be more helpful. You might want to post the inquiry in the Parent Cafe or on the Yale forum, if you haven’t already.

Thanks, Consolation
I am bit uneasy about Craiglist - due to recent events in our city, hesitant to rely on the cite… Yes, posted on Yale Parents forum - hoping to get leads there as well

2thepoint, does Yale offer housing in the dorms/residential houses at all? Since your D is working at Yale, perhaps they would let her rent there?

Hi, dumbo11, unfortunately Yale does not offer any housing for the program participants and dorms are not available for short term summer rent…

Proposal, we get caps or tee shirts with our CC names to wear while wandering around during graduation weekend. Parents of 14s we met up late night at Collis one year. I think it would be more efficient to pm with email addresses to set up the meet and greet…

on second thought of the caps and tee shirts…(kids rolling their eyes skyward…)

Hello Hanover!

Have fun Magnum! Hope it is cooler than when I was there last weekend. Packing D up from a dorm with no A/C with temps in upper 90’s was tough. Try Pine, the new restaurant at the Hanover Inn. It was delicious!

Congrats Magnum. Have a great time!!

any other parents of '15’s out there? We are planning on going to sophomore parents weekend. Anyone else?

Hi Parents,

Looks like we are coming full circle. Coureur started this thread when his daughter was a freshman. Now he is on his way to Hanover for his D’s graduation (where has the time gone). To the 13’s and their families, congrats and have an amazing time at graduation (hoping for no rain as the ceremony is on the green rain or shine).

Chick will be there next weekend as she goes to her 5th year reunion.

After an amazing “farm-to-table” dinner at Cloudland Farms in Woodstock Vermont the rain has slowly started to fall. As I continue to meet parents and other students I am convinced that the friendships that are made on the Hanover plain will last a lifetime. Perhaps a possible retirement spot? Hoping to run onto Ms. Tallyrand, Courer, and Very Happy as I cruise Hanover in cognito in my black Hawaiian Airlines cap…give a rouse!

^^Judging by the many ads in the Dartmouth alumni magazine, Hanover is is apparently a very popular place to retire to. I think it would be great except for the winter weather. Upper Valley winters are not something I’d want to tackle in my golden years.

The rain is supposed to clear up on Sunday to partly cloudy. So if the sun is out much at all I’ll probably 'be the only guy at Commencement wearing a white UC Davis baseball cap - to keep my scalp from getting sunburned. (My only other hat is a Harvard baseball cap, which I figured would be bad form to wear around Hanover, especially at some Dartmouth-drenched event such as Commencement.)

Congrats Couruer, Magnum and all the other '13 parents (grad and undergrad). I’m glad the weather forecast is dry. Funny, I never knew Coureur was a man until Sybbie’s latest post. Blind assumptions, ha.

Thanks Reddoor! Sophomore summer was a lot of fun. Make sure you go canoeing on the river. I saw the Black Family center yesterday. Very nice. And the improvements at Collis were nice too. I picked up some admission info for the next generation of applicants back home.

Dumbo, give Coureur some respect! as you know you and I are much taller on-line.

Dam the rain, literally, let the festivities begin! Reporting live from Hanover, aloha, MPI

Bildner Hall is almost as nice as the Hampton inn. Almost. Huge room. Twin XL beds for me and the mrs. It is so convenient. Hanover is hopping, but unfortunately the constant cold rain is winning. Took 3 of S’ buddies out to dinner and enjoyed the nonstop chatter. So this is what it is like at Dartmouth. I hope they really study during the quarters because they all look way too happy for me.

The glee Club put on a great show at The Hop last night. Had a wonderful dinner at Simon Pearce. The rain has stopped this morning. It’s shaping up to be a great Commencement weekend,

The rain has subsided and we are enjoying class day at the Geisel school of medicine. Just saw some blue sky peeking through the clouds.

It’s turning into a nice afternoon. Enjoying Moreno gelato and watching the parents and seniors strolling Hanover.

Enjoyed the new “Pine” restaurant at the Hanover Inn. Great food and even better service. Watched the Dartmouth Aires perform before a nice crowd at the steps of Dartmouth Hall at 10 pm. Now trying to get some sleep before the big day.

Can’t believe 4 years has gone by. Really gonna miss this place. Hope S3 will consider Dartmouth one day. Has been the most amazing 4 years! Love this beautiful, magical place. Do wish we could have gotten out here for longer stays and gotten a chance to visit the White Mountains! Well, gives us a good reason to come back!. Good luck to all graduates and their families tomorrow!
