Dartmouth RD interview request

I’ve been interviewing for about the same, for a T20 school. The last question the evaluation form asks is, “Would you recommend to admit? (Y/N)” If I think a kid makes a particularly good or bad fit, I make sure my comments reflect that. And, yeah, I’ve had many completely “bomb”, and many others so accomplished I wonder how I made it in.

Wish I could tell you if my comments or recommendation made any difference but I’ve never been notified of the admission outcome.

really?! Where I interview I can see admission decision in a portal about 24 hours after kids are notified. I even get an email when it is ready to view. It has been like this as long as I can remember (though maybe ages ago it was a few days later, to account for kids getting paper-notifications). I am 95% sure I have had online access for at least 20 years.

and of course, the reason they do this is they want us to welcome those admitted!

I also got notified of decisions. And I had access to my reports if I didn’t remember someone. Honestly though it was pretty easy because usually I had no one accepted in RD. Discouraging when the students would usually have made great additions to campus.

This is very useful insight! Did any of you have access to the candidates application before the interview? I’m curious if my D24 should avoid rehashing what’s in her essays and talk about newer/less covered activities?
Many thanks!

I did not have access to the resume prior to the interview. Sometimes when I have time, I have requested the candidate to email me a resume to have an idea of what the candidate’s interests are.

Nope. Just the applicant’s name, HS, intended major/college, and contact information.

Nope. Nothing. Just name and email.

As an alumni interviewer, I have no access to the application. Name, contact info, high school.

(Presumably this may be different for admissions officers doing interviews, but in general, I don’t think alumni interviewers get access to anything like grades, scores, essays, etc.)

No, in fact they even encourage us not to ask about GPA/SATs since we (as volunteers) aren’t trained to put any of that in context like AOs.

I think that, in general, that is a good idea, but I wouldn’t really overthink it too much. These really matter very little (at least what I am told). However adding new interesting things can only be good, as would be adding more context nuance than you have space for in app to things already said.

If you haven’t listened to these, do!

Thank you for your response. This is the exact impression we get and is how our D24 has prepared. She has a great list of questions ready that shows her genuine interest and commitment to Dartmouth, and is prepared for general conversation about her interests and why Dartmouth is a good fit for her.

Does anyone know if interviews are still happening? They haven’t received one yet and I believe they are a competitive candidate and wouldn’t be an auto-reject if they do that.

I understand that the timing of interviews varies between regions based on availability. There may not be interviewer availability for every candidate to receive an interview, nor is it an indicator of possible applicant acceptance or rejection.
