Right or wrong, I believe adding a period after an ellipsis (which is the trailing off of a thought), makes the ellipsis moot. I’m sure, somewhere in the world, someone agrees with me. Cheers! 3:-O

I’m a judicial attorney in California, and we follow the California Style Manual (https://aclawlib.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2012/12/04/california-style-manual-4th-ed-available-free-online) – which has very specific rules on this exact subject (and many others). The rules on ellipsis vary by use in the middle of sentence, ellipsis at the end of sentence, and so forth. I usually trump the issue with a bracket. :-*
