Dating Scene at Columbia

Is the 2:1 Girl to guy ratio becuase of Barnard really relevant? And is it true that most of the students are socially awkward?

It’s more like 55:45. Barnard is not fully integrated into main campus, so it feels more like 55:45, which is still good. The dating scene is decent, there are a lot more random hook ups, one nighters and friends with benefits. But people do date and fall haphazardly into and out of love. Most people are not socially awkward, but any good university has it’s fair share from people who are too smart for their own good. It’s not like University of Chicago or MIT.

really? because so many people said that theres a huge competition for the guys lol

the all-girl barnard balances out the heavily-male SEAS. also keep in mind that a tird to a half of barnard girls are either lesbian, orthodox jew, or fundamentalist muslim so that would help out your ratio. if your main concern is the ratio of eligible straight girls to straight guys it is certainly not 2:1 …MAYBE it would be 60:40

I usually tell people it’s about 60-40. Here are the stats:

CC and SEAS are an undergrad body of 5602, of which 46.5% are women (2604 women). Add in the 2,346 students in Barnard, who (let’s assume) are all women, you get 4950 women and 3000 men on campus, which is a 62 / 38 Female/Male ratio. Discount a little mixing for some of BC staying more on their own campus, and 60/40 is about right.

(stats source: Princeton Review)

This is really funny. girls doing math on how their chances with guys are. kind of turns stereotypes upsidedown.

on a side note: Columbia should advertise this fact to increase male applications. i saw nothing about this in their prospie booklet

Columbia should advertise the fact that they have a greater availability of girls to increase male applications? That seems just a bit shallow, haha.

Another side note: Vassar also has a 60/40 girls to guys ratio if I remember correctly.
