David Hogg / gap year / celebrity " hooks"

And that was my earlier point that he still has an app process to go through. I know little that isn’t public about him. The app/supp is important. You rarely get to just like someone’s media, movies, presidential father, etc. I do suspect he’s baseline qualified. But I’d like to know more.

Maybe the question really is, would you bypass his academic and other aspects just to have him?
And anyone else you liked or admired?

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

The thread is not about a hypothetical student; it’s about a living, breathing young man. Let’s not get led down the off-topic garen path.

I wouldn’t accept a student I thought was academically unqualified for my institution, but Hogg’s academic qualifications seem to be good enough that he would be adequate academically at any of the schools he applied to. I don’t know about any other “aspects” that would render him unqualified. Obviously there might be things I don’t know about that would disqualify him, but his admissions results seem to me to indicate that he was evaluated without reference to his recent successes.

David Hogg, and student organizers like him, give me hope for the future of America. All great social and political reforms are driven by the passionate (and yes, sometimes naive) ideals of young people. I say this as a beneficiary of the socio/political reforms of the Sixties and Seventies, all carried out within the framework erected by our nation’s founders. Hogg and his cohorts embody the spirit of the delegates of The First Continental Congress, as well as other brave Americans since (though I know to some, this may seem hyperbolic). I don’t give a rat’s rear-end about his SAT scores. I’m excited, and cautiously optimistic to see what he does next.

Someone made a false report to police of a hostage situation at Hogg’s home:

People are stupid.

Some people are evil.
