David Hogg: Yep, it’s a hook ( but what a sad one)

@dolemite That is true for Hogg as it is for all kids. Every college in the country has distinguished alumni who have accomplished great things. But, the truth is that Harvard can offer contacts, connections and a launching pad that may make achievement somewhat easier than from other places.

Making contacts still depends on the individual. In fact, Hogg will bring contacts with him.

The irony is the notion ‘H makes the man’ (or woman.) But it’s the sort they aim to collect, in the first place. Hogg seems to embody that.

Often, posters assume some kid had an uber hook, truly valueless, just a feather in the school’s cap
Not. Look deeper.

You know…you don’t have to get all A’s to graduate from Harvard and have a successful life.

I am very happy for this young man. I’m sure he will bring much to Harvard, and gain much from attending the school.

I’m surprisingly happy for him, too. He deserves H. (Or any school he picks.) And the community will likely benefit from his presence, his vision and energies. This is so much more than some ordinary Chance Me/It’s My Dream School kid puts forth.

I hope every single one of those kids gets into a top school where they will have the resources and connections they need to have a positive impact.

I don’t know if he’s hooked, because his circumstance is beyond that. I’m reminded of this cringeworthy story: a woman comes to the bank to deposit a $100k check. The teller jokingly says “I wish I had a check like that.” The woman says “it’s a life insurance check. I’d rather have the person.” I suspect they all wish they hadn’t gone through that horrible experience.

Hogg, Gonzales, Corbin, Wind, and Kasky are all out there making a difference. I love that teens are feeling empowered, as evidenced in the midterm elections. They see that they are making a difference.

I never saw David speak, but I did others. It was amazing to see how they could address a crowd of thousands. They showed maturity and passion.

@gallentjill He does not need the contacts H brings. Senators, former presidents, etc - they will take his call today.

Over in the Harvard-alumni spaces, we’re celebrating. We consider this a big “get” for us.
