DC Subway Shutting Down for 29 Hours

I personally am glad they are doing it now and not waiting for the weekend. Safety is the first priority as a parent of someone who uses it daily and will have to stay home today. Safety is way more important than convenience.

But the fact that it needs to be done on a relatively new system needs an explanation.

S2 takes the bus to work anyway, so I’m not sure if he’s at the office or telecommuting. I’m sure some of his co-workers couldn’t make it in.

Yes, better to be safe, especially considering the past history of fires.

One of the main reason I chose to move to Alexandria, sure I’m paying more in rent for a tiny studio but hey my early morning commute to SE DC is relatively painless. My usage of the Metro is limited to weekend trips into the District.

I was surprised that traffic was not worse this morning. I think a lot of people worked from home.

My kid walked to work, she said it is 70 degrees today. She had to interview someone (internal candidate who also can walk) and had some meetings, and she just got promoted last week and is really excited about work right now. So she hoofed it in.

Hopefully, he’s telecommuting. The buses are overcrowded because people who usually take the Metro trains are riding them.

DH is telecommuting today. Since he had several overseas calls and can get on the VPN, it was not a big deal. I had to get S1 to BWI by 7 and be in Gaithersburg by 9, and I was 45 minutes early. Love the ICC!

S2 was at the office today after all and said that the bus wasn’t any more crowded than usual. I guess alot of people telecommunted.

S telecommuted, which was fine by him! DH drove in (which he normally does) and said traffic was lighter than usual. Fed Gov had option for telecommute so that kept a lot of people off the roads.

S is down at a non-DC location working, so he wasn’t affected at all by the Metro or traffic related to it.
