Death on a subway wearing high heels!

it appears as if there’s an implied element of slut shaming in them. But I don’t think that’s the intention.

<p>The only one I saw that covered it in that way was the New York Post, and I think it was very much intentional on their part. The Post headline was “High-Heel Corpse On The Tracks,” and the first two sentences of the story were:</p>

A woman dressed in high-heel boots and spandex was found dead on the subway tracks in lower Manhattan yesterday afternoon, cops said. The unidentified white or Hispanic woman, believed to be in her 30s, had last been seen at McKenna’s Pub on West 14th Street hours earlier, law-enforcement sources said.

<p>I know the Post, and it’s quite obvious what they were implying. Helping the police identify the victim was the last thing on the collective mind (if it deserves that name) of the Post.</p>

<p>The first two sentences of the New York Times story, by contrast, may have been melodramatic, but certainly didn’t have the same air of salaciousness:</p>

She entered the subway system sometime around 1 a.m. on Sunday, dressed in dark clothes and dark boots as if coming from a night on the town. By the afternoon, her lifeless body lay among the soot-darkened track ties and trash under Canal Street.
