December 2010 - Physics Subject Test

Since this test was relatively difficult, I think you should be able to miss 12-14 points for an 800.

Do you guys remember any more questions?

Nah, just wait it out. :D

You know, I skipped like 20 questions. Randomly colored a few of them in. Aside from that, I got one wrong and am unsure of 3-4 others. If I get a 750… I will literally be so happy I might die. A 750. That’s all I’m asking for. I REALLY don’t want to retake this test in January.
You guys are so lucky you cover this stuff in AP Physics. I didn’t even know what AP was until like 3 months ago.

Taking AP Physics doesn’t help. I’m in physics C right now and we go so much more indepth than what the SAT II asks for, so I tend to overthink the problems on the test.

Not to mention, physics C doesn’t cover certain topics that are asked on the SAT.

This test wasn’t hard.
I never considered myself a physics wizz…
Never entered a laboratory (my school doesn’t have one , heh) or took any AP/IB/whatever courses (unfortunately my country doesn’t offer them), and the only instrument I saw is the thermometer :smiley:
I may get an 800, or somewhere close to it. I couldn’t believe it was this… logical. Seriously, just using common sence would get you through about 2/3 of the test…

The blue book’s curve is -16 (59/75) for an 800.

@dakilica

Way to degrade physic classes, downplay everyone’s 700s/800, and imply that people who scored lower are unintelligent.

@BerkeleyHopeful

Whoah, you really destroyed me there :slight_smile: !
Actually, the way the schooling system in my country works is that people learn a LOT of things that they won’t need in ways they probably won’t need. So transitioning to the SAT system (at least in physics) was nice.
But I don’t know, maybe I underestimated myself in terms of knowing physics?

I didn’t want to offend or undermine anyone’s intelligence in no way. I (and I must say “I”) did what seemed logical to me, probably had a lot of luck, but still missed some.

If anyone felt offended, I’m deeply sorry, that wasn’t my intention. I apologize. :/

hey does anyone remember what were the answers for the lab reading … i remeber a thermometer one and a mass multiplication one… i totally forgot about the rules when I did the test so could anyone give me some answer for the questions? I felt so anxious…

I think it was two decimal…

Both of those pertained to significant figures. The thermometer’s answer was 70.0. It couldn’t be 70.2, 70.02, or whatever else was offered, because the scale was in .5s.

The other sig. fig question involved multiplication. When you multiply sig. figs, the product will have the same number of sig. figs as the lowest of the factors. I think that both of the factors had 3 sig figs, and thus the product would also. (Example: 1.54*12.6=19.4)

How did everyone end up doing on the Physics? I managed getting a 760, so I’m pretty darn satisfied.

I got a 710 on physics, but considering I took less than a semester of honors physics, I consider this a success. Self studied with Kaplan for 3 weeks. Haha I felt I did terrible too.

@stpeters51 That’s what I did! Except I’m taking AP physics, but still less than half a semester nonetheless :stuck_out_tongue: I self studied kaplan’s for about… 4 days. lmao It was pretty bad taking 2 practice tests in one day, but I felt very successful on getting such a good score with very little prep.

I got an 800!

@neohanyou - haha nice, but my honors class is seriously pathetic. We are probably moving slower than a normal class at any other high school. By the time I took my test, we were only up to momentum lol

Can anyone estimate what the curve was for this test? These questions look mysteriously similar to the ones on a more recent test.
