Writing score is now posted - not pretty though!
What did everyone get on their writing scores? For some reason 2 9s and 2 8s gets a 23?
Still registered :-S
How is it that people already have their writing scores and I’m still here waiting for my MC???
27 on writing !!! Not happy
My son got his results today. For context, he is usually spot regarding his performance on tests. Took SAT in October and felt very good about it and his score was what he expected. Two days of devastation after the ACT. He is not the melodramatic type and when he said the science was impossible it was a shock because he had always done very well on the science on practice tests. He was estimating his Sci score to be 26 - 28 and was already planning on when to retake. Composite is a 33. English - 35, Reading 34, Math 30 and Science 31. He’s thrilled and said there had to be a generous curve on the science. Will be interesting to see what his writing score is because he did exceptionally well on the Essay on the SAT. Good luck to all of you. Hopefully everyone gets their composite scores soon with writing to follow quickly. Remember that while I understand this is important to you, it DOES NOT define who you are. I have known many extremely successful people in life who have gone to state schools, private schools, large schools, smaller schools. It’s 4 years of your life; visit schools and pick a school where you will be happy. Find your perfect fit.
I have a question. If I got an 18 in all of the individual subsections in the math section, does that give me a 36? Because I got an 18 in all of the subsections:
Pre-Algebra/Elem. Algebra 18
Algebra/Coord. Geometry 18
Plane Geometry/Trig. 18
But my math section score still shows a 35 rather than a 36. Is there a possible reason for this other than that the ACT gave me the wrong score?
@rkv339 Sorry, computers don’t make math mistakes. You can get perfect in all the subsections and still get a 35 due to the curve.
WHAT IS THIS WHEN AM I GETTING MY SCORES!!! PPL ARE GETTING THEIR WRITING SCORES AND I STILL DIDNT GET MY MULTIPLE CHOICE WHAT IN EARTH IS THIS?!
Subscores on the ACT test are scaled separately from the subject score, so it is possible to receive an 18 in all sections and yet not receive a 36 as a score. This is because perfect scores are not always necessary to receive a top mark, and suggests that you scored at the lower end of the range that earned an 18 on each subscore.
This what the official fb page of ACT replied to a similar case for the maths scores at least
@SG1999 which city was your test center??
@theofrelord But isn’t that a bit unreasonable? A curve bringing my score down?
@Hitman32 Oh I understand. I already sent an email to their score support service. I also got 16 and 15 in the subscores in reading which add up to a 31. However, I was given a score of 30. I guess I will have to see my test when I get it back in the mail
^ do u mean that we also receive a copy of our test with correct answers …I didn’t know that.
Yes you can order test material with answers on specific “special dates” One of which happens to be December. However, it takes 4 months for the material to be mailed & it is only for US Nationals.
@Hitman32 I got them at 8 this morning.
So if I didn’t receive my scores today, do you think theres any chance I can use them for my apps due on January 1st?
D16 got her scores this morning. She had a 33 from June, 2015 but her math score was low (30) and she is applying for math/physics/computer science to very selective schools. Today’s scores bump math up to 31 which would make her superscore 34. Her composite is unchanged About half of her schools superscore and about half don’t. Should she send this score to schools that don’t superscore?
My son got his score this morning. It wasn’t available last night. He made a 34, which is the same score he had in June. His scores were E35, M33, R34, S35, so he made a 34.25, rounded down to a 34. The bad thing is that he fancies himself good at math, and if he had gotten one more point in math he would have made a 34.5 which would have rounded up to a 35.
Our state has an honor called STAR Student that goes to the highest ACT score in each high score (minimum of 25), and to every student with a 35 or 36. A lot of schools don’t have a STAR Student because no one makes a 25, and it’s not uncommon for a student with a 27 or 28 to be the STAR Student. At my son’s school there generally are four to eight STARs with a 35 or 36. There’s usually no money with the award, but they get to name their favorite teacher as STAR teacher, and of course it looks good on an application.
I haven’t told my son yet. He’s not going to be particularly happy, but there are a number of test dates left before next December.
Anyone else think it’s unfair that some people have both multiple choice AND writing scores while others don’t even have their multiple choice?
