lol my writing was awfullll. 31 Composite and 24 Writing
I got a 33 Composite (E: 33 M: 30 R: 34 S: 33) but only a 23 Writing. I have heard that there is some scandal going on with the writing graders discussed here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/1846576-act-writing-scorers-are-making-major-errors.html
Should I request a rescore or just live with it? Does writing matter that much? I don’t think I’m a bad writer, I almost filled the entire booklet and I’m sure I incorporated a thesis and discussed all 3 viewpoints.
Writing is complete BS I have not been able to score above a 24 but consistently do so much better on SAT writing. I write great essays and receive horrible scores, no idea what that’s about.
Hey!! I got a 36 on the writing this time around. Although I am shocked with the outcome, here are my two cents
First of all WRITE IN THIRD PERSON!! I know it can be hard to write without using “I” but by using historical and literary examples your position gains more power. Remember these readers probably go through thousands of essays and you need to grab their attention from the start! Writing in third person signifies maturity and as my teacher always says, “it differentiates you right from the start!”
In order to portray your opinions in the third person narrative, DO NOT use SOB verbs! State of being verbs, such as being, was, are, and is, are (LOL) hard to avoid but remember it is best to limit them.
My overall essay structure:
I started off with my thesis in the first sentence. Remember these readers are fed up with reading essays and your ultimate goal is to cut the bs and go right to business. Next, try to introduce the body paragraphs with topic sentences relating back to the thesis. The last paragraph is NOT a summation of you’re points but is an opportunity to tie everything together. Try to speak about current times and how the essay’s theme speaks to the human condition. This method of writing essays is great! (And if you learn to do it now, you’ll have a easier time in college)
Lastly, this shouldn’t be surprising but FILL ALL OF THE PAGES!! If not all try to fill a decent portion out.
–> I managed to pull a 36 using this method. I am not saying that following this will guarantee a good score! I have been writing essays using this format this school year. Thus, I already had a faint idea on how to write this essay beforehand. If you don’t follow this format, just be sure to limit the first person narrative and include academic references for examples. Most importantly, YOU DO YOU! Know what style fits you and go in and you’re set!
If anyone wants any further guidance please message me!! Good Luck!
I got a 32 Composite with only a 21 Essay! All my practice test essays—graded by a tutoring company—have been around a 33 consistently. Should I request a regrade for my essay? Thanks!
The writing scores don’t seem to equate with the rubric scoring. My son’s score posted sometime in the last 5 hours. His score is a 30 with 11,11,11,11. I would think 44 out of 48 gets you a higher score than a 30. Am I not understanding the writing scoring? Four categories each scored from 1 - 6 (4 - 24 points) and reviewed by two reviewers. That gets you 8 - 48 points which they try to fit into their 36 point scale. I don’t see how 44 gets you a 30. Even if they drop you a score based on each point lost it doesn’t equate 36 = 48 points; 35 = 47 points; 34= 46 points; 33 = 45 points; .32 = 44 points… it doesn’t equate. Quite confusing.
@woakley5 The same thing happened to me! I got a 32 Composite with only a 21 Essay! I’m really shocked because a tutor graded a bunch of my essays and gave me around a 33 every time!
@bigboy12 are you going to request a regrade? Im kind of in a bind because I am VERY happy with my 33 composite score and I don’t want to risk messing that up just to get a good writing score. Won’t colleges see that I am a good writer via my essays rather than the ACT writing? If my essays are good will my writing score hold me back?
Quick question: on my September ACT writing score, I got 8,8,8,8 su scores and got a 24.
On this writing I got 8,8,9,9 and got a 23??? How does this make sense? Lol
@woakley5 yeah im gonna do it because i didn’t expect my essay to be that low. I would do the same for you because I read that a regrade can’t hurt you—it can only help.
Has anyones status changed from registered to tested?
Not yet. Has yours? @hechopecho
For the people whose scores came out after the first posting date, did you status change from registered to tested days before you received the scores or at the last minute?
STILL NOTHING!!!
Yes, @devram2000 the status changed a few days before. Our test center was really organized, with many student volunteers and I have a feeling they sent things in right away. My daughter tested twice at this center and both times, the scores were in the first batches. She tested at one other center and the scores took forever to come. It was VERY disorganized and in a district we weren’t familiar with. I wonder if that has anything to do with it, who knows. Good luck, I wish you the best.
@netter11 Thanks for the feedback! Good to know for next time. I might have to switch testing centers because the two times I have tested at this specific testing center my scores have been delayed for a considerable amount of time.
Still registered ): @fboy98
No change. :-L
has any international’s status changed to tested yet?
No change.
