Unlike those with SAT scores in the upper 2000s, GW was not an obvious “safety” school for me. It just feels like, had I applied even as early as 2 years ago, there would have been a great chance of RD acceptance

EDIT: sorry for venting, but it just seems the admissions process comes down to putting 10,000 students with similar stats into one gigantic hat and picking out the names randomly.

accepted
no interview
no i didnt go to the campus
28 ACT
3.8 UWGPA
4.2 WGPA

yea…gwu seems like the most arbitrary >< perhaps they truly did evaluate each applicant based on who would fit in and not so much the numbers.

BUT STILL i thought gwu was a safety for me too because i had a decent sat score and prettty nice ec’s…i guess they denied either because i said i applied to schools like wellesley or because of my uber low gpa [3.3 uw]. :stuck_out_tongue: either way, at least i have an east coast school close to DC. Next year around oct/november will be epic in that area

SATS 2090 700+ ON BOTH SAT 2’S

Great rec’s and strong ec’s, outstanding essay.

accepted
visit? yes
interview? yes

(SAT 2250, ranked top 5% competitive public school)

Methinks the admissions this year have a lot to do with demonstrated interest…in addition to high stats/scores.

insanity, methinks the admissions this year have less to do with interest and more to do with what school you’re applying to and whether they think you will attend.

My D did a visit and showed interest early on in the college application process, was not accepted to Elliott. Her twin my S with not quite as strong a profile did not visit and only looked into GW last minute, applied to Engineering and was accepted.

Well, you have to understand that GW needs engineers—thus the other twin got priority.

Hmm, soproudofkids, that could be true. Of course, my friend who is much more qualified than I am was weightlisted from the same school (arts and sciences). Thus, my observation. Additionally, I would think demonstrated interest would contribute to whether or not the school thinks a person will attend…

soproudofkids: I am wrong but in at Wash U, waitlisted/rejected at GW??? I think I’m going mad…Time to go to the Bloomie’s sale and take my mind off of this stuff…ridiculous…

chudiane I disagree about the Wellesley thing. I applied there and Barnard as well and that didn’t seem to impact my getting in GW

Waitlisted
4.5 W GPA (at the time)
2310 SAT (1520/1600)
SAT II’s all 740+
Class rank: 1/500
Maybe my essays weren’t phenomenal.

You sound like someone, Spidey 1588, who probably applied to the Ivies. Did you indicate this on your application? If so, they probably waitlisted you because they figured you might mess up their yield rate. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe you were not so involved in leadership positions in extra-curricular activities. They LOVE those leaders!!!

Maybe the reason why so many amazingly top qualified students are waitlisted is because they assume you think GW is a safety and not high on your list. My son had average stats and got in. They must assume he would jump at the chance to go to GW. Unfortunately merit aid was not offered and we are not able to afford to send him without it. I think that when a lot of the accepted kids with sticker shock do not reply by May 1st, the obvious talents will come off the waitlist. I would not be disappointed in getting waitlisted, I’m sure it will be a positive result.

Waitlisted
