Deep Springs Class of 2030 Official Thread

Dun dun dunnn!!! In the final week at last… how’s everyone holding up? : D

What did you guys write for your essays?? And what were the easiest/hardest prompts for you? Personally, I found myself really struggling on the ‘Prove you’re not AI’… I haven’t really interacted with it much (at least intentionally!), so that was definitely a journey for me

Also, how many books did you guys read this year? I’m a little worried about my reading list being pretty short, since I haven’t had much free time in the past few months  Hopefully that won’t end up being a make-or-break thing for ApCom though

I think they were alright! The one I had the most conflicting opinions on was definitely the Socrates one. I read twentysomething books this past year I believe.

Hi everyone!

I hope all your applications went well, I submitted mine right before they closed :joy:. The prompts were really interesting to think about, my fav was definitely the AI one. I had 20 books as well. Right now I go to fashion school in NYC so I’ll have to wait to see what they think of my application! Super nervous though for when December comes.

Good luck to everyone and let us know if you make it to the second round!!

Yay! Which question is the Socrates one? Like the one asking us to critique an application?

I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one submitting late, did it about 3 hours before on the last day… :sob:
Woahh, fashion school is so cool!! What made you wanna apply to DS and how’d you hear about it?

Thank you!! And glad we are both on the same page about being last minute lmao.

I found out about DS from a friend showing me their instagram! I was really interested since then and decided to apply to their next admissions cycle. Deep Springs is such a cool 2 year experience and really different from fashion school as you would expect haha. I just want to learn a lot, become a leader, and their missions aligns with me. Being out west could be cool too. Why did you apply?

The one about the suffering and committing of injustice was something that Socrates had a lot to say about, I’d imagine that’s where the question came from

That makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, I didn’t take the prompt that way.

Hey everyone!!! Just wanted to drop in and say decisions are starting to get sent out. Unfortunately I was rejected for this round, but hopefully the rest of you receive better news !!

Has anyone else not heard back yet, still waiting on my results? Any idea on what this means?

You aren’t alone in this, mate^^ Either our application was rejected without notice due to a violation or inadequacy, ApCom hit their optimal stopping point and we missed out, or they simply aren’t done processing applicants, which seems unlikely yet plausible due to possible delays.

I wouldn’t stress it too much! Are you an international applicant? In years past, those decisions tended to be sent out about a day or so later than the rest : )

A bit late, but I made the second round! I’d love to talk!

Honestly was very surprised, I have very poor grades in the grand scheme of things, and no particularly interesting experiences. I mean, maybe more than average, but nothing incredible. I wrote the essays in the last two days before applications were due, although I do think they were good.

of note: I would not recommend writing them that late. I wrote something like fifteen hours a day, and my essays were to varying degrees delirious and insane. I don’t think this is a bad way to get drafts–write drunk, edit sober, as they say–but you need to edit sober, which I did not do.

Happy to answer questions from anyone, although maybe not identifiable things publicly.
