Deferred applicant freaking out, chances?

I’m not sure how to compare MIT and Chicago. Look at the stats - MIT got 6800 EA apps last year, and accepted some 600 (roughly a 10% acceptance rate). Chicago got roughly 12000 EA apps and accepted some 12%. The EA acceptance rate was lower for MIT than Chicago. But the applicant pool is also very different. Chicago draws a whole bunch of liberal arts students than MIT. And, conversely, MIT must be drawing hard-core tech geeks with corresponding achievements. Just looking at SAT as a measure of which school is tougher is not right. On the whole, for students who do fit and have decent credentials, it’s a crap-shoot at either school.
