Have you got confirmation from UI that you can take these classes while deferred? If not, I would start there. You don’t want to be considered a transfer student, that happens at some colleges and can affect aid.
I’d take the advisor’s advice. She may be subtly trying to tell you that a good grade from a CC on one of those classes won’t carry as much weight in Kelley admissions as a good grade at UI would.
