deffered to regular admissio pool

Ok so I checked on this and it seems the essay wasnt optional so maybe my D confused this with a different school…Maybe it was revenue plus a great essay? Thats my thoughts…

MButler, I say this with love – why, oh why, would you drop another $15k on another state’s university?? I went to UMass and absolutely loved it; however, I was in-state. Now, as a parent, I would more-than-gently suggest to my child that he/she stay in-state at their own university. Don’t get me wrong, Amherst/Northhampton are infinitely more attractive than Storrs, however, money is money. The academic difference between the two is neglible and simply not worth the extra $60k over the 4 years.

Hope you use your money wisely and go to Storrs – UConn has alot to offer in both the academic environment as well as the athletic – enjoy!!!

I have certainly thought about that issue a good amount lately and realized it is a very valid point. I will have to take this all into consideration. I still have three more reach school decision’s on the way so once I know all of them I will be able to make my decision. Thanks for the advice!

someone help me this is my forumn

Hi
Yes these forums do tend to get taken over but its really not intentional. So back to you wanting help. You are looking for someone to tell you what your chances are to get into the school. You are out of state and you do not have a good SAT score. Your APs and ECs are great. It looks like your GPA is 3.5? I wasnt quite sure of that. You are applying to one of the hardest programs the school has and you are competing against students that are in-state. You are also competing against lots of out-of-state students. No one can tell you what your chances really are unless they work for the college. You have to wait. You can help your case by contacting the school and letting them know you are still very interested. Your mid year grades may help if you’ve kept them high.

I would contact them and I would also follow it up with a personal letter. I would give them a little information on your challenges but I would not dwell on it. I would let them know why I was interested in the school and what I could offer as a student.

I would also apply to other schools if you havent done so already. In the event you do not get in, it doesnt mean you were not a good student. It means that there were lots of others applying that had better stats. You can always transfer in if your heart is really set on this college. Good Luck

Unless you were a MA resident, why would anyone ever chose UMass over UConn?.. UConn is known to be the better school.

UConn is overrated–although not on the basketball court–that’s for sure. But TA’s lead many of the courses, red tape runs high, and lets face it, Storrs–Moo

Sorry Omniscient – have to agree with Hawk@15 on this one. Storrs can’t even compare to living in the Amherst/Northampton area. As far as UConn being a “better” school? Don’t think so – what about Isenberg, Nursing, Engineering at UMass? I’ll give them the sports nod, but I can’t even imagine living in Storrs for 4 years – ouch!!

haha… I love how you are comparing one $hitty location with another. UConn has been the top ranked school in New England for like 10 years now… UMass lives in UConn’s shadow… I am not saying that UMass is not a good school… it is, but it is no UConn.

i want to go to umass even if i get accepted to the general studies

Give them a call and show your continued interest. Let them know you want to go there and that you would also accept a place in their general admission program. Follow it up with a letter of continued interest.

UMass is hardly in a $hitty location! The Amherst/Northampton area has 5 colleges and a plethora of activities – quite unlike the rolling, boring hills of Storrs! Also, it is only ranked #1 due to its athletics, pure and simple – makes it more desirable to some people who deem sports to be a major draw. Isenberg is considered one of the top undergrad business schools, not UConn’s Business School.

Just an opinion, but I think most would agree that UMass’ surroundings far outshine that of UConn.

Ouch… this is going to sting a little…

Please do not post US News business rankings as they are not as accurate and in depth as Business Week’s rankings. Although if you do, it will backfire. UConn’s MBA program is #52 on that list with UMass being ranked much lower… The Wall Street Journal also ranks UConn’s MBA program 51st in the U.S… UMass is not even on the list. UMass part-time MBA program is very good, though, and I am considering it for my MBA… that is if I do not get into UConn’s MBA program.

I have just proven that UConn has the best public b-school in New England. Wow… did I just make you eat your words…

and the out of stater also pays 3-4 times more than you do… so whats your point?

i got a 91.00 gpa for the first quarter and a 92.50 second quarter what are my chances

Sorry to everyone that was deferred.

doctar, no one here can really help you except with the advice that you call admissions and speak to them. Make sure you’re calm when you do that.

The arguments about which school is “better” are hilarious. Let me make this clear: I went to an H-Y-P school. Even with that “prestige” life is what you make of it. Have brains? Ambition? Motivation? It’s a big world and the name on your degree isn’t you or your entire freaking future.

My son was deferred from early admission but got his acceptance letter which was dated February 29.

How do I tell them that I’m not going?
One of you could be going in my place… once I figure this out.

^
There should be a form in the folder that says “Enrollment Form.” Towards the bottom it says “To decline your admissions offer…please check the box below and indicate the college you plan to attend:” Check off box, sign, date, mail back.
