static75: I never heard anything from anyone there that they are getting rid of the CS program at Courant. It seems they might make separate concentrations like how CAS has two concentrations for Economics: Policy (easy and similar to other universities) and Theory (harder with more math).

It doesn’t make any sense because the two CS programs are so different. If you look at NYU Poly cs courses, they tend to be more practical (better for employment) but at Courant they are so mathematical and theoretical (better off if you getting a PhD or you like math). Take a look at the courses (not the introductory courses though) at cs.nyu.edu and NYU poly, and you will see the differences. Look at the homework in the NYU Courant CS pages. The homework looks terribly difficult and mathy.

Everyone may have been given NYU Poly maybe because they are better fit for NYU Poly unless you plan to get a PhD or you really like math. Anyway, trust me. NYU Poly is better off because it is more practical and actually helps you in a future job. I took a course at NYU Poly and it actually is USEFUL and less of a headache!!! On the negative side, NYU Poly students take classes in Brooklyn so it’s tougher to engage with the rest of the NYU community.

Plus, NYU Poly actually gives good scholarship. NYU doesn’t even give me anything to me at all!

To prove that I am a double major in math and CS, I have a CIMS e-mail address that proves I am a student at Courant. Only advanced undergraduate students get them. Just message me and we can talk through that.
