Delta Upsilon Faces Allegations of Drugging Female Students

Delta Upsilon’s executive director told us last week the fraternity “has yet to receive reports of misconduct from alleged victims, witnesses, the university or authorities.” He said, “No disciplinary action has been taken at this time.” Our June 2 story reports that the University of Chicago chapter is facing multiple allegations of drugging female students. On Wednesday, we requested an update on the progress of the investigation, and asked if the chapter will be disciplined if the investigation does not uncover information about druggings beyond our story. Delta Upsilon has not yet responded.

The frat’s statement specifically talks about DU as an organization. It says nothing about whether specific members of DU have been contacted by any of the above parties in any form other than a formal report.

After publication, a source contacted The Maroon to say that a person in DU told them that brothers are aware a victim allegedly tested positive for Xanax, but that “no one in DU has seen the test as of now so they don’t know for sure.” The source knew other pieces of information that The Maroon withheld from publishing, suggesting this information is accurate.

So people in DU are definitely aware of these claims - with or without a formal report/investigation.

The Maroon is reporting the allegations as allegations, not gospel truth. A student newspaper is not a court of law, and researchers estimate 92-98% of rape allegations (different crime but similar context) are true.
