All that seems clear to us is:
-8/21 move-in
-8/25 induction ceremony
-8/29 classes start
It does make it hard for out-of-state parents, especially athlete parents getting there earlier, to stay for induction.
Unclear whether pre-O is mandatory or kind of because they have done away with the mandatory June-O… may explain why Pre-O is free and highly encouraged.
Has anyone received any information or materials re 2024 pre-O offerings? I would expect those to come out in a single mailing to all who paid deposit after the May 1 deadline.
Move in - 8/21
Induction -8/21 - the evening of move in.
Pre-O 8/22-8/25
Orientation 8/26 (?)
First Day of Classes/Course Registration 8/29
I had noticed that everyone moves in 8/21 then induction that night, then the Pre-o’s. I rearranged hotels so at least we don’t need to come back for induction.
Parent of a recent grad, so cannot speak to some of the changes with pre-O and no more June-O. But regarding Induction – students were whisked off to begin events right after Induction ended so families said goodby and that was it.
For fall athletes, I would say most families did not return for Induction as they had moved their students in earlier. I believe it is live-streamed so that families who are not there can see it. We did return for Induction, as we were just a few hours away. It really is all about the students, as a parent, it was a sob-fest but the students were not focused on us at all.
Yikes no more summer orientation? Isn’t that when the students make their schedule? I thought that was still in existence. Maybe I was just looking at a previous year’s info page.
Oh dear, I don’t want to contribute to a rumor! I was responding to what @gablesdad said about doing away with June-O. I have no knowledge about current schedule as my kid is a recent alum.
I could understand if the school concluded that a physical trip to campus in June for 36 hours to take language placement tests, get advising, and register for class was fun but not necessary and that those activities could be folded into regular Orientation activities.
I agree; I wondered if a June trip was too burdensome for many students. I just saw that Gablesdad referred to the end of the June orientation! I missed his comment reading it quickly earlier today.
Ok, glad I wasn’t the only one who is a little confused! We will be at Denison next weekend for my son’s overnight visit with the team. I’ll try to find out more regarding the orientation stuff.
