Well, frankly, we originally only stopped there because we were on our way to Kenyon. But, really, almost the moment we got out of the car my son liked Denison. (And believe me, we did not get that impression from him at all our college visits!) It is really a very pretty campus. I like the fact that it is a residential college (all 4 years the kids live on campus) and the frats/sororities have been severely undermined there. Our tour guide was great (that always helps) and the emphasis really (and genuinely) seemed to be on their personnal approach; small classes, close relations with profs, active career placement office, etc. Students seemed slightly less preppy, rich kid, than some of the other schools he looked at (slightly…). My son interviewed there and they did a great job interviewing him. They continued to follow up with him via very personal emails, hand written notes and such. Several profs in the academic areas he was intested in also contacted him. He also likes the looks of their honors program. Overall, I will be very happy if he ends up there, but this type of school, for a number of reasons, is a very good match for my son. I know a small LAC (sort of in the middle of no where) might not work for some kids, but it is what my son wants. We are stuck in that financial aid no man’s land where we won’t qualify for aid, but can not swing $40K+ for college, so the generous scholarship he qualified for will be a big factor. Still, he will wait to hear from his other schools before he decides for sure. Good luck!</p>
