Describe my chances!

Hello,

You’ll find that those of us on the Brown board are generally disinclined to give chances, since we’re not admissions officers and it’s not possible for us to see everything that they will have access to.

I will, however, make a couple comments. It’s really hard for us to tell what the GPA means - GPAs vary wildly by school, and the courses that you take matter quite a bit. Your GPA is higher than mine was, but I was within the top 10% of students in my class, and very few people had GPAs much higher than mine. At other schools, lots of people are at or near perfect GPAs, and so their GPAs have different meaning. As far as SAT scores go, [Brown Admission: Facts & Figures](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University) gives some information on Brown students’ SAT scores. There’s naturally some correlation between SAT scores and admission, though people with lower scores are accepted too, and it’s hard to say what got any individual person accepted. Next, it’s worth noting that 3 EC activities wouldn’t be called “numerous,” but the number need not be inhibitory…generally, it seems to be quality over quantity.

Finally, Brown cares very much about interest and fit - why are you interested in Brown, and what do you bring to it? Why do you think that Brown is the school for you?
