MOWC…roflmao. I need that ringtone for my son!

hardworking baby

I’m tempted to just adopt DougBetsy’s description of his son verbatim; it’s danged close. But here’s my own attempt:

One of these days, our son’s ability to focus on and take care of the practical business of each day is going to catch up with the brilliance of his intellect, the depth of his musical talent, the generosity of his heart, and the soundness of his ethical principles–and when this happens, there will be no stopping him.

nightchef, I like your way better! :)

You’re right. Our kids might have been separated at birth.

Though D is bright, funny, sarcastic, kind, modest, inflexible, open minded, and activist…in the end it boils down to:

D: She is the weird roommate!

S: see MOWC’s answer… ditto here! LOL

Son #1: A wonderful mind and a beautiful smile.
Son #2: Brainy, sure, but more important, the nicest person I have ever met.

All I can say about DS is that he definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer (he gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “Men are from Mars” )

Spirits are using him; larger voices callin’.

Some of the lyrics to Montgomery Gentry’s “Back When I Knew It All”

At the ripe old age of nineteen
i bought a short bed pick up chicks machine
life ran on beer and gasoline
a half a lap ahead of the law
i had a fake i d that got me into “tuffies”
love was a word i used to get lucky
was a big time spender with that plastic money
back when i knew it all

Back when the world was flat and
mama and daddy didn’t have a clue
that was back
back when a pitcher of beer and a
couple shots made me bulletproof
back when god was a name i used in vain
to get a point across when i got ticked off
Lord i’m learning so much more than
back when i knew it all

I think that wis75’s son is living in my house!

Wow, tough one.

D: She’s a beautiful, angry artist, prone to mood swings, passionate about her art and her life, both bold and timid, dancing at the edge of maturity, bound by a strong sense of self.

S: He’s all math and science, sprinkled liberally with music and a lot of literature, tempered by the soul of a judge and empassioned with the heart of a warrior.

An intellectually artistic procrastinator, with compassion for all things weaker than she.

S1, A man of action, lives life by the seat of his pants, burns the candle at both ends, everybody’s friend, a terrible driver, he’s a handsome beast, a regular guy who just happens to be smart, never flaunts it, doesn’t worry about what others think, loves books, more driven than anyone I know.

S2, All things manly, a he-man of the highest sort with a grin that makes you forget all transgressions, displays surprising resiliency, not a great academian but a truly great friend, one that others call on because they can count on him.

The newlywed rocket scientist and environmental engineer we met on a small boat while scuba diving in Aruba hoped their children could turn out like my son.

Daughter #1 She is a gifted, brilliant hard working girl with an amazing sense of humor and drive to succeed.

Daughter #2 She is a workoholic with a tendancy to underestimate her ability, while balancing her social life and excelling academically.

Daughter #3 She is at that awkward middle school age when one’s social status is the measure of self worth.

S1 - shyly funny, geeky, kind, recently decided that if he could be any math formula he’d be a Taylor series, takes computers apart and puts them back together for fun.

S2 - goofy funny, plays any sport involving a round ball, a magnet to young children who think he’s cool, not an academic star but wise in ways that will serve him well his whole life.

S is an intellectually mature, academically gifted, somewhat absent-minded, highly focused, kind person with a dry and very, very funny sense of humor which he uses to keep himself balanced.

Note of explanation here: S is absent-minded because he is so focused. Kind of like a horse with blinders - sometimes sees what’s right in front of him and nothing else.

D is a brilliant, pretty, shy but well-liked, extremely thoughtful, artistic, math and history genius who underestimates herself to the point that she sometimes is too hard on herself, but is learning to lighten up when things get tough.

S is the math whiz who masks his intellect as a water polo player, looking like an elegant swan on the surface while the legs and feet beat furiously below the surface as he works hard (applies to both academic and sports interests.)

S1: Sonny Corleone
S2: Michael Corleone

Read into that what you will.

D1: A Pisces, swimming keeps her grounded and sane.
S: There is the time we follow and his time, but he is respected and loved by all.
D2: She is an introvert secretly wishing for her moment in the spotlight, not realizing she always shines.
