We just now finished a mudroom to laundry room conversion to bring W/D from basement to first floor. Yes! No more spiders nipping at me one the very unfinished basement!
I was sweating profusely until I saw that our 27in wide machines would make it through our old house doorways into the new room.
Never had so much fun doing laundry!

I splurged on pedestals this time- aging bodies don’t enjoy bending or reaching down into the depths. It is worth losing the “counter space” of the old washer/dryer heights (I can still put an empty laundry basket on top) and needing a stepstool to reach more than the first shelf of the cupboards. Amazing how the little things in life affect us.

Thanks jym. I am still waiting to hear back from the appliance store salesman. He was doing research to find something that would fit. I am so surprised that the size of dryers has changed so much.

Ha! That’s what my Ds are saying! May be time for a new house! Really can’t grab space anywhere for a remodel unless I give up the only bathroom on the main level. If I went stackable I would have to rip out beautiful cabinets. This is such an unexpected and crazy problem!

20 - can you vent from the bottom? How many inches too deep are the new dryers? Maybe you could cut onto the wall a few inches? Or you could contact a used appliance dealer for older, smaller models that would fit.

We can not vent from the bottom, rear or left. We can not switch dryer and washing machine because there isn’t enough space to run any duct pipe behind, under or around. It HAS to vent from the right. We could do electric, which can vent to the right, if we can get a 220 line put in. Contacted 3 electricians today and none of them were interested. :(

Does the door open out or open in? Could you put in a narrower door? (We have a much narrower-than-normal door to our attic because of a gable issue – not fantastic, but it works fine.
