Dickinson Class of 2016 hopefuls!!!

I just got my acceptance along with 10k a year in merit aid. with the rest of my FA package my total cost of attendance would only be $3,000 a year. All of a sudden Dickinson is on my radar again big time!

I’m so sad. My DD got a deferral… She is totally in the ballpark with GPA, SAT and amazing ECs and recommendations. She is so depressed and discouraged. I wonder what chance she has now RD… :frowning: Anyone?

My S was accepted EA- Dickinson was his first choice. He is in the ballpark with GPA, etc, but he reached out to the admissions rep and let it be known that this was his first choice. For those w/deferrals, if you REALLY want Dickinson, make sure you let the school know… He was deferred at many other schools where he was a perfect fit w/SAT, GPA, etc., or above the average, so it feels very random.

I agree, Baltimoremom, that interest may be really important. My D is NOT really in the ballpark on GPA, although her SAT’s and EC’s are good. However, she has visited (went to Dickinson Days with her dad even though we live across the country) and has kept in touch with her admissions rep by email and I think that may have made the difference for her. Even her school counselor didn’t have high hopes for Dickinson for her. Unfortunately, the low GPA kept her from qualifying for any merit aid so paying for this may be out of reach…but that’s another bridge to cross! She’s still very excited. :-)

Looking at D’s high school’s admissions results history with Dickinson, the student with the highest GPA applying in the past 4 years was wait listed. Students with GPAs up to 5 points lower, were mostly accepted. I think Dickinson is a school that cares about level of interest, and may defer or wait list a highly qualified applicant if they think the applicant is unlikely to attend. We visited and my D had an alumni interview. She also emailed her admissions rep after our visit to express interest.

I imagine the deferral is to give your D time to demonstrate her interest.

Good luck.

hello I’ve been accepted with very generous merit scholarship $15000 per year! soooooo excited!!!woooooohooooooooooooo!!!dickinson is my top choice, and i am excited about the possibility of meeting you guys in august 2012!!!

My D was accepted and received a John Dickinson scholarship.

Are all the EA applicants informed? My DD hasn’t heard yet and is holding her breath…

cloudy, this is last year’s thread. You might want to create a new thread for the HS class of '13.

Oops!!! So anxious for DD I didn’t read the date!!
