Did anyone recieve more than $30,000 in aid?how much are you paying for BU?

Well, BU gives more than 29k in Financial Aid. They have a Matrix that is based on Need and Merit Aid and this is just for Grants and Loans

[Boston University - Office of Financial Assistance - Applying for Financial Aid](http://www.bu.edu/finaid/apply/incoming_probability.html)

I ended up choosing BU because of the very nice Financial Aid Package I received.

My total Package was $49,500
and $42,000 of it was grants and $2,000 in work study and then last $5,500 were in loans.

The reasons I assume i received this package:

  1. I handed in my financial information in about a month late, I was lucky enough to even get these funds. As this year BU had supposedly ran out of money for Fin Aid from what others have told me.
  2. On the Matrix I’m on the Top Tier, 2nd Need Bracket. Also the income is earned just from my mother. I guess they were being nice with my father gone. As you know even if your parents are divorced the other parent still must give in financial info. Couldn’t give mine in so yeah
  3. As much as I hate to say this, but I think it also helped that I was a Minority majoring in Engineering. The rate of Hispanics going to college is still lower than it should be, and even lower for Hispanics going into a Science/Math related Career
  4. Plus it helped that, I had lots of EC’s many including Science Related EC’s such as research and Science Research.
  5. And it helped that not only was I Hispanic, but 3 other underrepresented minorities in Colleges…
  6. And the fact our Condo is worth nothing, since now I’m reading they also include the value of your house as part of the Financial Aid info and what not.
7.And also they give a VERY high Financial Aid Package to students they try to get to their schools. There are some kids worse off than you, BU gave them nothing or very little like 10k and they have to fork up 40k a year to attend

But anyways you should be happy you recieved that much in Financial Aid, I know some people who received nothing and said that BU said they had ran out of money… so it kinda sucks for them. And I know it’s late but if you have a better financial aid offer I would go with it. That’s what I did, I was about to go to NYU and pay 30k a year >< ugh I would have killed myself after I graduated with a 120k in debt lolz ><.
