I used to know a guy that was what is now called a cafeteria Christian.
He said he wouldn’t go to a place that sold alcohol. Yet he sometimes went bowling, then ate at Pizza Hut. I asked how he reconciled the “won’t go” yet he went there. His weak explanation was that he didn’t go there to drink alcohol. I asked if he could go to a dance bar to dance, if he only drank soda pop. He said no. So in his case, if he really liked the activity, he’d put away his religious restrictions. If he was only lukewarm to the activity then it was off-limits.
Last time I was in Germany about 5 yrs ago, I was told there were really 2 drinking laws. One, the official law- no drinking under 16. And 2, don’t act an idiot. Someone 14 or 15 that has a drink and doesn’t get loud, and causes no problems would be permitted to drink.

I talked to the principal today. He said that the trip is not an official school trip because it is during the summer. He said drinking would be at the discretion of the teacher and that he’d recommend permission slips on the matter.

^^^ get it in writing before you leave.
